Can you do it?

Due to an internal promotion, we are hiring for this exciting role to work on the development and operationalisation of analytical pipelines and processes to manage large-scale multi-modal data, specifically those associated with –omics (e.g., whole-genome sequencing, bulk and single cell RNA sequencing, proteomics and metabolomics) and imaging (e.g., MRI, DXA, retinal images and tumour histopathology images). The post holder will develop, maintain and document workflows, and integrate processes into our Analysis Platform to enable analysis of large-scale genomic data and UK Biobank phenotypic resource. You will be responsible for: Designing, developing and producing analyses for large omic datasets Working with engineering and business stakeholders to (re)develop, improve and integrate data pipelines and procedures for data transformation, quality control and delivery for large-scale – omic or imaging datasets Developing tools and workflows in a cloud environment to improve automation and process efficiencies and reduce manual repetitive tasks Documenting and maintaining records of all changes to the UK Biobank resource and associated processes in a well-structured manner Producing technical reports on data management and procedures Providing clear annotation of data-fields and supporting documentation for the data in the UK Biobank resource Delivering training sessions and providing guidance to external researchers on the origins and interpretation of UK Biobank data Working hours are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, hybrid working is available. Located in Greater Manchester (initially based in Stockport with a move to Manchester Science Park mid to late 2026).

Can 'you' do it?

Reporting to the Senior Bioinformatician, you will have: PhD in bioinformatics or related field, or equivalent experience such as 4+ years in a professional bioinformatics role Significant experience in analysis of large-scale sequencing data, including complex multistage pipeline development, reporting, and troubleshooting Proficiency in programming, e.g. Python/C++/R, command line applications and experience working on a cloud or cluster computing system Familiarity with command line applications and programming standards such as version control Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with the ability to present to technical and non-technical audiences Our passion for diversity and equality means creating a work environment for all employees that is welcoming, respectful, engaging, and enriched with opportunities for personal and professional development.
