DEC20241091 Expiry date: 23:59, Sun, 5th Jan 2025 Location: Liverpool An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Registered Biomedical Scientist to work within our UKAS Accredited Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology Laboratory. T he Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology Laboratory (CPDL) at LSTM offers a UKAS accredited local and nationwide diagnostic parasitology service for all specimens of human origin. The Laboratory undertakes a range of diagnostic testing, adhering to ISO15189 standard, and provides accurate, timely results to assist clinical diagnosis. The laboratory offers a broad nationwide service, diagnosing human parasitic diseases using microscopical, serological and molecular techniques. The laboratory incorporates aspects of Microbiology, Haematology and Blood sciences within one unit. The laboratory has strong links with and undertakes diagnostic testing of samples from NHS Trusts, private hospitals and private laboratories. As a registered HCPC Biomedical Scientist, you will be an integral part of the Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology team at LSTM . Your responsibilitieswill include diagnosing human parasitic diseases using microscopy, serology and molecular techniques. You will provide a wide range of diagnostic testing, adhering to strict professional international standards and the laboratories quality management system to provide accurate timely results to assist clinical diagnosis. The post holder will possess a Degree in Biomedical Sciences (or related subject) and be a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist. Knowledge of basic quality control and assurance is essential, and you will be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of people. Please note that the laboratory is closed on bank holidays, evenings, and weekends. No shift work is involved. Key responsibilities include (but not limited to): Serology for parasite antibodies Microscopy of blood for the detection of parasites Microscopy of faecal samples for detection of parasites Microscopy of other bodily fluids, worms and insects for the detection of parasites Molecular techniques for the detection of parasite DNA Ideally you will be able to demonstrate: Qualified to degree level in Biomedical science (or equivalent). This qualification must be recognized by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist Experience of patient database systems for storage of data and generating results Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements for a clinical setting Experience of diagnostic parasitology methods (desirable) (For a full list of essential and desirable criteria please refer to the job description and person specification) Generous occupational pension schemes Government backed “cycle to work” scheme.
