Staff will be appointed to the band 5 pay scale, dependent on the criteria listed in the person specification. We may also consider applications from individuals who can demonstrate that they are close to completion of the pre-registration portfolio. This post will be appointed to Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, however candidates should be aware that Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is part of a pathology collaboration project. Main duties of the job

We have an opportunity to be involved in crucial laboratory and virtual ward testing including COVID 19 and other Rapid testing profiles, working with our existing enthusiastic and dedicated team. An excellent opportunity for those with an interest in science and laboratory medicine. The post is part time 28.13 hours per week, fixed term for 9 months. This post is a maternity cover position. The appointed member of staff will have significant responsibility in ensuring the smooth operation of the team, including rota and order management. Job responsibilities

Duties will include, but not be limited to: Performing work duties to the standards required as a HCPC biomedical scientist Undertaking the correct procedures for the handling of specimens, pre and post analysis Maintaining and operating equipment used in the preparation and analysis of specimens Performing a range of laboratory tests autonomously and demonstrating an understanding of the scientific basis for tests and the disease processes under investigation Demonstrating awareness of factors affecting sample integrity, risks associated with the sample reagents, or method and other tests indicated by the outcome of the analysis Using the main laboratory computer system in accordance with service requirements Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

Experience of working in a clinical pathology laboratory as a Biomedical Scientist Understanding of health and safety legislation pertaining to clinical laboratories Understanding of laboratory quality issues Problem solving ability Familiar with pathology LIMS Good knowledge of immunological processes in health and disease Qualifications

Degree (or equivalent) suitable for HCPC registration HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist Uses continuing professional development as a means of self development IBMS membership Disclosure and Barring Service Check
