The National Trust is looking for a Brand Protection Manager to oversee its portfolio of trade marks, trade mark strategy and guidelines, and to give measured professional advice on brand and partnership working to a wide variety of colleagues. The National Trust has a small brand team with a big remit, covering brand strategy, brand identity and brand protection. Your influence and expertise, like that of your team-mates, will extend across the whole of the organisation, and beyond. If you’re an expert in the world of trade marks and brand protection who’s ready for a new challenge, you could make a real difference joining its team. What it's like to work at the National Trust Reporting to the Brand Manager, you’ll be part of a supportive brand team, but will also work closely with the Trust’s legal team and other relevant business areas such as brand licensing, corporate partnerships, fundraising, retail and marketing. Your contractual location will be the head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview. What you'll be doing You’ll be responsible for the leadership and professional expertise on all matters relating to the National Trust’s trade marks. You’ll own and manage the trade mark strategy and guidelines, and you’ll lead on brand compliance within and beyond the Trust. You’re the person that colleagues come to for specialist advice and answers. You’ll guide them in how to use the Trust's brand and trade marks internally, and when working collaboratively with others. The Trust has ambitious plans to work more proactively and fruitfully with external organisations, individuals and groups, so your partnerships expertise will play a crucial role in achieving these ambitions. When necessary, you’ll be pursuing unauthorised third-party use of the Trust's brand or trade marks. You’ll be challenging inappropriate use of its brand wherever the need arises. Day-to-day you’ll manage the trade mark portfolio, together with trade mark lawyers, including registering and maintaining trade marks to reflect the Trust’s evolving commercial needs. And you’ll lead the negotiations of trade marks in international markets. Who they're looking for The Trust would love to hear from you if you’re: experienced in UK and EU trade mark law and practice, as well as international laws and practices skilled in resolving trade mark disputes, and in leading tricky conversations to achieve brand compliance throughout a large and complex organisation used to managing or advising on trade mark portfolios, including handling applications familiar with commercial areas such as licensing, fundraising, marketing or buying confident, decisive and persuasive, with clear judgement in guiding, influencing and advising a wide variety of people at all levels in an organisation adept at handling multiple priorities and tight deadlines The package The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart.
