Job Description SGS New Zealand is seeking an experienced Building Compliance Inspector / Technician to join our team in Christchurch, to cover the Canterbury region. You will be responsible for inspecting commercial buildings to ensure they meet all relevant building codes and regulations. This is a critical position that plays a key role in maintaining the safety and compliance of buildings in the local community. What you'll be doing Conducting thorough inspections of commercial and residential buildings to assess compliance with building codes and regulations. Conducting Fire Alarm and Emergency Lighting Service work, keeping buildings and our communities safe. Identifying any areas of non-compliance and providing detailed reports outlining required remediation works. Liaising with building owners, property managers and contractors to ensure necessary corrective actions are taken. Staying up-to-date with changes to building codes, regulations and best practices. Maintaining detailed records and documentation of all inspections and compliance activities. Providing expert advice and guidance to clients on building compliance requirements. The ability and technical aptitude to work towards becoming an Independent Qualified Person (IQP) in the Christchurch region is required. Qualifications What we're looking for Extensive experience (3+ years) as a qualified Building Compliance Inspector or similar role. Thorough understanding of the New Zealand Building Code and all relevant building regulations. Trade qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Building or equivalent industries. Fire Alarm Technician experience and Emergency lighting replacement experience preferred. An Electrical Technician qualification or ability to work towards an Electrical Technician NZQA qualification is preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify non-compliant elements in buildings. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with a range of stakeholders. Ability to work independently and manage a diverse caseload efficiently. Current NZ driver's licence and ability to travel to inspection sites within the Canterbury region as required.
