The Estates department at Furness General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical, mechanical, and plumbing engineers, creative building craftpersons, and dedicated support staff.

We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Building Services Engineer to join us. You should be an experienced and time-served Electrician, Plumber, or Mechanical Engineer looking to progress your career.

You will be part of a 7-person shift team providing 24/7 cover to the FGH and Millom hospital sites, and will be trained to specialise in healthcare ventilation and decontamination.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure the safe and continuous operation of all engineering and building plant and equipment, in accordance with statutory requirements, codes of practice, guidance notes, and Trust procedures to an agreed standard. Out of normal office hours site maintenance responsibility. Be the department’s point of contact for all out-of-hours incidents and breakdowns, carrying out first line assessment, fault finding, repair, substitute of service, and/or safe isolation as required. Act as the Trust’s Fire Controlling Officer and undertake the duties of that role for the site as a whole during a fire event. Be appointed Authorised Person for roles within Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) 1 to 8. Carry out line manager duties for contractors.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, and Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case, and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
