Your world of expertise You will be joining the property and facilities management team which handles hard and soft Facilities Management (FM) for the Met Office estate. Our estate includes freehold properties, leasehold properties and operational sites. You will focus on building services engineering duties offering expertise across various disciplines. Undertake periodic inspections of the estate to monitor condition and maintenance compliance. You will identify emerging maintenance needs, ensure they are prioritised and scheduled for completion. This will involve frequent UK travel. Provide technical direction and guidance for building services engineering issues on the Met Office estate and provide technical support to stakeholders in Property Management to assist with the HQ Hard Services FM contract and the Frontline Hard Services FM Contract. Review designs, drawings, specifications and tender documentation to assist with the delivery of projects across the estate. Our work is life-changing, often life-saving and always life-enhancing. As our Building Services Engineer, your total reward package will be up to £47,606 annually, which includes: An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%. Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) you will be paid £2,800 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this market-driven allowance from April 2024 until September 2025 in your monthly pay. Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave. Essential Criteria, skills and experience: As an Expert by Nature you will be in possession of, or working towards, a relevant building services professional accreditation (e.g. I Eng I Mech E). We Keep Evolving and you must have a keen interest in the built environment and be confident in identifying and progressing concerns outside of your specialist discipline (e.g. building fabric maintenance and inspection). You must be able to work using your own initiative and have a thorough understanding of building services and construction related legislation and regulation. Demonstrate competence, knowledge and experience in tendering small works and understand the related contract law applicable to contracts. You will be able to demonstrate good communication skills – oral and written. You will be a part of a larger team, we're Better Together, and you'll need to evidence being a team player willing to get involved and support others. You'll be in possession of a full driving licence as extensive UK travel is required for this role.
