Join the team redefining how the world experiences design. Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time-consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point. Where and how you can work Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work; we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals. What you’d be doing in this role As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. This will give you the flavor of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve. At the moment, this role is focused on: Collaborating with designers and product managers to define and scope new features, functionality, and technical requirements. Taking part in design discussions, code reviews, and hiring interviews. Optimizing backend performance and infrastructure to support global scalability. Proposing innovative solutions to future-proof our products and features as the platform grows. Seeking solutions to scale and performance challenges, driven by a passion for debugging, benchmarking, building impactful solutions, and continually learning new technologies and skills. You're probably a match if you have Proven experience in developing high-performance, production-quality Java code for large-scale global projects. Comprehensive knowledge of Cloud (AWS), Networking, and OS (Linux) concepts, along with cloud best practices. Background in building large-scale web applications and portals; experience with content management systems is a plus. Familiarity with service design, architecture, and technologies such as Java, Typescript, DynamoDB, MySQL, and ElasticSearch. Solid grounding in computer science fundamentals: concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns. Strong communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with both technical and non-technical teams. Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership over complex problems and their solutions. About the team The CMS team works magic behind the scenes, creating a content management solution tailored to Canva's unique needs. The platform is a breeze to use, giving users the power to manage and arrange their content without a hitch. Plus, it comes with nifty features for running experiments, localizing content, and hosting assets. About the role The team is looking at ways to redefine how content management is done across Canva, and you will be a key player in helping to define the future. Our vision is to empower Canvanauts to manage content at scale. You will work on a variety of backend features and infrastructure projects with a small team of backend and frontend engineers who enjoy extraordinary influence over the product's tech stack and direction. What's in it for you? Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity, and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a range of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work. Here's a taste of what's on offer: Equity packages - we want our success to be yours too. Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers. An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more. Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge, and support you personally. Other stuff to know We make hiring decisions based on your experience, skills, and passion, as well as how you can enhance Canva and our culture. When you apply, please tell us the pronouns you use and any reasonable adjustments you may need during the interview process. We celebrate all types of skills and backgrounds at Canva, so even if you don’t feel like your skills quite match what’s listed above - we still want to hear from you! Please note that interviews are conducted virtually.
