Business Change Manager - Library Services Systems Programme

Location: Boston Spa/St Pancras

Contract: Fixed Term

Hours: Full time (36 hours)

Grade: A

Salary: £38,665 (BSP)/ £42,179 (STP) per annum

About the role

The British Library is seeking a skilled Business Change Manager to play a key role in delivering the transformational Library Services Systems Programme (LSSP).

In October 2023, the British Library was subjected to a cyber-attack, which had a significant impact on our ability to deliver services. This ambitious programme will replace damaged legacy systems with a modern library services platform, enabling improved access to our collections and driving enhancements in services for users and partners.

In this role, you will lead the planning, design, and implementation of business change activities, ensuring the successful adoption of new systems, processes, and ways of working across the Library. A key focus will be defining and managing the programme’s benefits framework, tracking and realising outcomes, and ensuring alignment with organisational goals. You will act as a primary interface between the programme and stakeholders, developing engagement plans, managing change impacts, and addressing challenges to support a smooth transition to new systems.

The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in managing organisational change within complex programmes, with expertise in structured change management methodologies and stakeholder engagement. Strong communication, planning, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels. A relevant qualification, such as APMG Change Management Practitioner or MSP, will further strengthen your application.

This fixed-term contract runs until March 2029, with the possibility of extension. The role offers the opportunity to work on an innovative programme that will transform the way the Library delivers its services. Regular travel between our St Pancras (London) and Boston Spa (West Yorkshire) sites may be required.

If you are passionate about delivering meaningful change and want to contribute to the future of library services, we’d love to hear from you.

About us

We are the national library of the UK and we are here for everyone. Our shelves hold over 170 million items – a living collection that gets bigger every day. Our trusted experts care for this collection and open it up for everyone to spark new discoveries, ideas and to help people do incredible things.

We have millions of books, and much more besides. Our London and Yorkshire sites hold collections ranging from newspapers and maps to sound recordings, patents, academic journals, as well as a copy of every UK domain website and blog. Our public spaces provide a place to research, to meet friends, to start up a new business or simply to get inspired by visiting our galleries and events. We work with partners and libraries across the UK and the world to make sure that as many people as possible have the chance to use and explore our collections, events, and expertise. And we’re always open online, along with more and more of our digitised collection.

What we can offer you

Closing date: 06 February 2025
