Hourly rate of pay: £18.70 - £20.91

Days and Hours of Work: Monday - Friday Flexi time is applicable, and starting and finishing times are flexible. To start April 2025.

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join Protective Services in one of the most beautiful and rapidly growing areas of Scotland with over 40 miles of magnificent coastline, rolling countryside, high-quality food and drink, world-renowned links golf courses and excellent links to Edinburgh city centre.

Job Summary: The Business Compliance Officer is a newly established post within a small but dynamic Trading Standards team. You will contribute to the effective delivery of a range of Trading Standards activities to protect consumers, prevent illegal trading practices, and promote business compliance.

Responsibilities: You will be responsible for exercising powers and discharging duties effectively to meet relevant local and national standards in areas such as consumer protection, product safety, fair-trading, and age-restricted sales.

Qualifications: Applicants must hold the Practitioner Certificate in Trading Standards (or equivalent) and be able to demonstrate experience in undertaking formal and informal intervention activities in relation to Trading Standards / Consumer Protection. You will have excellent communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team to meet shared objectives. You will also need to hold a full current driving licence.

Job Requirements:

Relevant Qualifications: Educated to HND level in a relevant subject such as Consumer Law, Fair Trading, etc., or equivalent and must hold the Practitioner Certificate in Trading Standards or equivalent.

Driving Licence: As the duties of this role require you to effectively travel to successfully undertake the full remit of the role, you must hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.* (* Where a disability precludes you from obtaining a driving licence, ELC will take into account its responsibility to make reasonable adjustments to allow for your disability.)
