Business Development Manager – Energy Solutions

Permanent: Remote, National travel with weekly visits to HQ (North West of England)

Basic Salary: £45,000 - £60,000 (Depending on Experience)

Benefits: Bonus, Car allowance, pathway to "Head of" position


About the Company

MDE are in partnership with a leading electrical contractor specialising in renewables and energy efficiency measures. They’ve delivered fantastic work with clients such as developers, associations, local authorities and the logistics industries.


They’re looking for someone with a strong business hunting and farming blend to promote their retrofit solution for the large C&I rooftop and ground-mount spaces. Ideally, the right candidate would have some tendering experience.


The ideal applicant will use their energy market expertise to consult on the optimal solution for large energy users. Business opportunities must be identified, connected with, and closed. Our client works in a fast-paced, collaborative workplace where the appropriate individual will make an impact both internally and externally.


What will your day-to-day look like?

  • Self-starter who contacts qualified leads and can generate their own
  • Plan, design, and close complicated business solutions for selected industry target markets to reduce grid reliance and high energy costs
  • Lead sales opportunities, including directing a bid team, accomplishing growth, sales targets, revenue objectives, and product penetration for new prospects
  • Grow and manage a pipeline and opportunities, reporting to management regularly on pipeline, forecasts, and close activities
  • Negotiate client contracts to maximise commercial opportunity and minimise company risk
  • Qualify opportunities by collecting client data and precise information early
  • Advising customers based on energy industry experience
  • Working with a number of introduction partners and building relationships Providing customer insight to the business to help develop our market proposition
  • Proactively building credibility by continually developing technical, industry, segment, and market knowledge
  • Identifying and engaging in industry forums, networking opportunities, and LinkedIn to strengthen the business's market presence


What are we seeking from a candidate?

  • 5+ years of presenting to large corporate clients, building relationships, and closing business opportunities within the energy solutions space (low carbon/renewable energy systems) consultatively
  • Proven new-business development professional with a solid track record of delivering annual revenue/MW objectives
  • Explore, build, and simplify complex energy solutions for C-suite presentation
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate energy data and pricing structures
  • Technical and business knowledge of energy generation, particularly solar and/or Energy Storage
  • Experience negotiating complex contracts
  • First-class sales and negotiation abilities
  • Ability to build and deliver professional sales proposals
  • Strong bid and tender management experience
  • Strong pipeline management abilities and CRM system proficiency
  • Passion for the energy business and behind-the-meter energy solutions Ownership, management, and delivery of the end-to-end sales process
  • Adhere to a code of professional behaviour and ethical qualifications
  • Excellent internal stakeholder management skills and knowledge of the UK energy sector
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills to communicate difficult solutions to the audience
  • Organized, self-motivated, and energetic


What would make you an ideal candidate?

  • A proven track record of selling large-scale energy generation projects in the UK across a range of different sectors with proven success in solar (100 kW+)
  • Experience with a formal theoretical sales methodology a big plus e.g., Miller Heiman, Challenger, MEDIC
  • You have a portfolio of projects you have taken from initial contact through to close using a variety of energy systems, and you’re able to detail constraints, how you overcame them, and the success it led to.
