Business Development Manager - media and events (Croydon based)

Job Sector Contract Type Permanent Location Croydon, London £28k basic plus high uncapped commission (10% on all deals!) Job Reference Media IQ-Croydon102 Are you money motivated? Do you have 12+ months media sales experience? Like the idea of working for a small, friendly media company based in Croydon? Looking for a consultative sales position rather than a KPI driven environment? If yes, please read on.... The Company A small, friendly, growing media and events company based in Croydon. They have a consultative sales environment where you are given the freedom and support to work towards your sales target, without having to worry about arbitrary call rates and other KPI's. The commission at the organisation is particularly strong as they pay 10% on all deals. Existing sales people can earn up to £50k in commission (although in year one it will likely be less than half that as you will be finding your feet). The Role of Business Development Manager This company works closely with local councils producing media (magazines, websites) and events which help the council and their private partners to stimulate further investment. Unusually you would be involved in all aspects of the project. Therefore you would start by meeting the council, working out the scope for the project that the council would ideally like (eg how many magazines and/or e-newsletters per year, how many events of what type per year, online presence etc) and then balance that with the realistic advertising/partnership revenues which you and the council agree are realistic from their 30 or so private sector partners. Then, with an introduction by the council, you will start to engage with their private sector partners to discuss advertising/sponsorship into the magazine/website/events. Every package will be bespoke to each client and since there are not more than 30 or so private partners which work with the council, this is a very considered and consultative sales position. Clients tend to be property development companies, pension funds etc who all have a vested interest in the area becoming more affluent, vibrant and therefore desirable (driving up property/land values). The company works with many different councils (as well as a few private companies) so you will tend to work on a project for 12 or so weeks before moving onto a new media project with another council/client. You would be working on projects for existing and new council clients. This role therefore has an unusually large scope to it, real variety and high financial rewards. Requirements for this Business Development Manager position 12+ months media sales experience (may consider someone from corporate subs or expo/sponsorship sales background) Driven and money motivated Polished, well educated and highly articulate Stable career history Someone who embraces autonomy and is a self-starter If you think that you could be the Business Development Manager that our client is looking for, please apply.
