Who You Are Experience in a financial or collection environment. Proficient in written and oral communication, able to convey complex matters effectively. Collaborative team player with strong IT and technical skills. Committed to continuous professional development and self-improvement. Preferably holding a business administration or professional collection/assessment qualification. Familiarity with the local area and demographics is advantageous. Competencies include influencing, problem-solving, adaptability, and delivering results. Possess a good understanding of income billing and collection with knowledge of best practices within a local authority setting. What the Job Involves Deliver high-quality, professional collection and assessment services for Council Tax and Business Rates. Handle complex queries related to Council Tax discounts, exemptions, and liabilities, as well as Business Rates calculations and exemptions. Administer day-to-day billing, collection, and recovery of Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates. Maintain compliance with Corporate Policies and relevant legislation to maximize revenue and accuracy of data. Support continuous improvement initiatives and application of automation in service delivery. Assist in staff induction, training, and supervisory roles as needed. Engage directly with customers via phone, email, and written correspondence to resolve inquiries and manage billing/recovery processes. Attendance at Magistrate’s Court may be required for negotiation and query resolution. Regularly update and communicate with your line manager regarding work changes and developments. Actively promote the use of the council website for customer inquiries. Adhere to the Council’s Health & Safety policies and take part in training and risk assessments. Comply with information security and data protection practices of the Council. Participate in safeguarding practices for children and vulnerable adults.
