An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5/6 Cardiac Physiologist/Healthcare Science Practitioner within the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated individual to join our busy and friendly team. The department currently provides a wide range of investigations including Electrocardiograms, Holter ECG monitoring, Pacemaker/ICD implant and follow-up, Angiography, Electrophysiology studies and Echocardiography. The post holder will be given opportunities for development in both invasive and non-invasive cardiology within the department. Continued professional and personal development is actively encouraged and successful candidates will be given opportunities and supported to develop their postgraduate skills. Those entering at Band 5 level will progress to Band 6 upon reaching competencies set out in the internal training programme. Successful applicants should have BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology)/ BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science (Cardiac Science) or equivalent. We will consider applicants in their final year of study who would be employed as Band 4 until they qualify. Working towards RCCP / AHCS is desirable. Job responsibilities

Participate in the delivery of a specialist clinical service and deliver a high standard of care to all patients. Rotate through all sections of Cardiac Services department to build a body of specialist knowledge and apply this to practice. Continue theoretical and practical training via experiential learning. Contribute to the delivery of training within the department. Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month's pay. All Criteria for Band 5

BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science (Cardiac Science). Interpretative knowledge of adult ECGs - (resting and exercise) including ability to interpret data and write a report of findings from ambulatory ECG recordings. Ability to provide technical and physiological expertise in both physiologist and medically led exercise tolerance testing (ETT). Ability to perform adult electrocardiographs (ECGs), set up, fit and remove a wide range of ambulatory blood pressure (BP) and ECG monitors. Resuscitation skills including defibrillation using both adhesive pads and external defibrillation paddles. Ability to set up and use haemodynamic recording and monitoring equipment in cardiac catheterisation laboratory, including IABP set up and operation. Ability to provide technical expertise. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Registration with the Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS) or Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP). All Criteria for Band 6

BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or Healthcare sciences (Cardiac Science Practitioner Training Programme (PTP)). RCCP (Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists) voluntary registration or equivalent registration i.e., HCPC or AHCS. Immediate Life Support certification. Post-qualification experience as a Cardiac Physiologist, Cardiac Healthcare Science Practitioner or a newly qualified Cardiac Scientist with evidence of continuing professional development and demonstrable competency in: Specialist interpretation of both Adult and Paediatric Electrocardiograms (ECG), analysis of data and ability to write a factual report of findings on all ambulatory ECG recordings including Paediatric / Adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) patients and patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices. Ability to set up and use all haemodynamic recording and monitoring equipment in cardiac catheterisation laboratory, including IABP set up and operation. Provide expert support for junior practitioners / physiologists in troubleshooting equipment faults and issues with pressure wire systems (FFR, IFR, RFR) and coronary vessel assessment tools (OCT and IVUS). Ability to perform temporary pacing checks and rapid ventricular pacing in Trans aortic valve intervention (TAVI) procedures while maintaining accurate reporting throughout the procedure. Ability to provide expert advice to medical team for optimisation of temporary pacing settings and to have flexibility to adapt to any urgent changes which may occur during the procedure or within the environment. Understand and interpret complex Paediatric and adult congenital cardiac anatomy and heart diseases and surgical procedures, relevant to interventional cardiac catheterisation lab procedures (Right and left Heart Catheterisation, Shunt and valve assessment, cardiac output and blood gas analysis) including comprehensive understanding of all haemodynamic measurements. Provide support for clinical training. Evidence of participation in practice development and CPD. Evidence of involvement in training junior staff and local sign off for mentoring others within boundaries of your own knowledge base. Availability for on-call work. Ability to provide expert physiological assessment of non-invasive blood pressure and ECG interpretation while supervising exercise stress testing for both adult and paediatric patients, creating a comprehensive, scientific report of the results. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Advanced Life Support Resuscitation Certificate. Post graduate Mentorship qualification (Practice Assessor Training course (level 6), A1/CAVA, Training Assessment and Quality Assurance (TAQA) or equivalent). Disclosure and Barring Service Check
