We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA), ideally with additional experience in Laser safety. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of friendly, experienced and professional staff providing radiation safety and imaging physics services across the North East and Cumbria. Consideration will be given for appointment at Band 7 for candidates within 18 months of RPA certification. Appointment as RPA / LPA to one or more NHS Trusts and/or private organisations. Contribute to delivery of teaching and training within the Unit. Contribute to delivery of radiation safety services. Job responsibilities

Band 8a

Performs a range of advanced healthcare science activities. Participates in the teaching and training commitments of the Service. Maintains and develops high standards of service provision throughout their area of responsibility. Contributes to the development, implementation, and monitoring of clinical and organisational strategies within their area of expertise. Initiates, in collaboration with the line manager, the development and delivery of research and development activities for healthcare advancement. Band 7

Performs a range of advanced healthcare science activities. Provides highly specialist advice and training to staff within own area and other professionals. Actively involved in research and development projects. Supervises and trains less experienced staff and trainees. Person Specification

All criteria for Band 8a

Highly specialist in-depth knowledge and understanding of the application of physical and engineering sciences applied to medicine or a related field, to doctorate level or equivalent. In-depth knowledge of diagnostic radiology including relevant legislation. Specialist in-depth knowledge of radiation safety, including ionising and non-ionising radiation and relevant legislation. Expert knowledge of radiation dosimetry. Advanced knowledge of scientific method and collection and analysis of data using standard scientific tools and software. Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills. Degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject. Certificate of competence as a Radiation Protection Adviser or Laser Protection Adviser (or eligible to apply). All criteria for Band 7

Knowledge of legislation, standards, and safety principles relating to the relevant area. Good knowledge of radiation safety legislation. Good written and oral communication skills. Experience working in radiation safety. Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
