Primary Care provides 80 percent of all NHS Health Care and Primary Care Nurses are continuously extending their scope of practice and clinical skills to ensure that we are able to offer high quality, safe care to people with increasingly complex health care needs. Our programme offers successful applicants a 24-month individually tailored development programme.
Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must have a BSc Honours Degree.
Educated to degree level.
Willing to develop a broad range of clinical skills.
Ambitious to continue to develop and progress their career in primary care beyond the life of the scheme.
In return, you will be allocated protected time to attend training courses and to consolidate learning within clinical practice. You will be supported throughout the programme by our lead nurse, clinical supervisor, and the wider practice team.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate understanding and appreciation of the different roles and responsibilities of nurses working in Primary Care. In addition, excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and the ability to work on your own initiative, as well as being an effective team member are essential requirements of this post.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Over the two-year training programme, the post holder will develop and apply a wide range of clinical skills appropriate to the needs of the primary care service. These will include, but are not limited to:
Treatment room duties
Minor surgery
Health screening and promotion
Cervical screening sampling
Family planning and sexual health
Immunisation and travel health
Chronic disease management
Mental health care
The post holder will:
Work collaboratively within the primary care team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care that meets the needs of individual patients, appropriate to the nurse's developing knowledge and skills.
Contribute to the achievement of local and national health screening and disease prevention targets.
Provide high-quality, evidence-based care that is tailored to the individual needs of patients.
Assist in the collection and analysis of data to evaluate the quality and productivity of services provided in the practice.
Continuously develop skills and knowledge to meet the demands of a primary care role.
Expand their portfolio of skills and increase their clinical autonomy over the course of the programme.
Actively engage in clinical supervision and reflective practice.
Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in contributing to multiple practice teams within the PCN.
Constitution, Policies, and Procedures:
The post holder is expected to adhere to the NHS Constitution and maintain accountability in day-to-day operations, ensuring transparency in decision-making and fulfilling the duty of candour. In addition, the post holder must familiarize themselves with and comply with all relevant organizational policies and procedures.
Health & Safety:
The post holder must comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and organizational policies, attending mandatory training as required to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Equality & Diversity:
The post holder has a responsibility to promote equality and diversity in the workplace, treating all individuals with dignity and respect.
Infection Control:
The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and attend appropriate training in line with local and national directives.
Safeguarding:
The post holder has a responsibility for safeguarding and protecting both adults and children from abuse. They must be aware of relevant safeguarding policies and participate in training to ensure ongoing competence in this area.
