The Old School House Care Home is a dementia-friendly home, specialising in residential care and support for the elderly. We are seeking a compassionate and caring person to join our team. Job Title : Carer (Full time and/or Part Time considered) Weekly Hours : From Part time - 6 hours per week, to full time 36 hours per week. As a 24-hour service, we operate shifts of varying lengths from 3 hours to 12 hours per day, arranged in a rolling rota basis. We can tailor the total weekly hours to suit a successful candidate, allowing you to manage life commitments along with your career. Location : The Old School House Care Home, 38 Merafield Road, Plympton, Plymouth, PL7 1TL Job Summary : As a member of the care team, your primary responsibility is to provide compassionate and personalised care to individuals who require assistance with their daily living activities in a residential care home setting. Your role is vital in supporting individuals to maintain their independence, enhance their quality of life, and promote their overall well-being. This job description outlines the key responsibilities, qualifications, and skills required in your new role. Key Responsibilities : Personal Care: Assist clients with personal hygiene tasks, including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and assistance with eating as required. Mobility Support: Provide assistance with mobility, transfers, and positioning to ensure client safety and comfort. Medication Assistance: Help clients with medication reminders, administration, and record-keeping under the supervision of healthcare professionals (subject to completion of satisfactory medication training). Emotional Support: Build and maintain trusting relationships with clients, offering companionship, active listening, and emotional support. Daily Living Activities: Support clients in performing daily tasks such as meal preparation, housekeeping, and laundry. Health Monitoring: Observe and report any changes in clients' physical or mental health conditions to the relevant healthcare professionals. Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care provided, including daily logs, progress notes, and incident reports. Safety and Hygiene: Ensure a clean and safe environment for clients, following infection control procedures and health and safety guidelines. Social Engagement: Encourage and facilitate social activities, hobbies, and community participation to enhance clients' social interaction and mental well-being. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other care team members, including nurses, doctors, therapists, and support staff, to provide comprehensive care and support. Training and Professional Development: A commitment to learning and furthering your knowledge in the field of health and social care, keeping up to date with required training courses which will be provided by the organisation. Qualifications and Skills : Education: A level 2 in health and social care is preferable or a high school diploma or equivalent qualification, but not essential. Additional certifications in health and social care or related fields are advantageous. Experience: Prior experience as a Care Assistant or in a similar caregiving role is preferred but not mandatory. Relevant volunteer work or personal caregiving experience will be considered. Empathy and Compassion: Possess a caring and empathetic nature, with the ability to connect with individuals of diverse backgrounds and varying physical and cognitive abilities. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including active listening and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, their families, and the care team. Patience and Adaptability: Demonstrated patience, tolerance, and adaptability to meet the unique needs and preferences of individual clients. Physical Stamina: Good physical health and stamina to handle the demands of the job, including lifting, assisting with transfers, and being on your feet for extended periods. Reliability and Dependability: Exhibit reliability, punctuality, and the ability to manage time effectively, ensuring all assigned tasks are completed in a timely manner. Integrity: Maintain a high level of professionalism, ethical conduct, and respect for confidentiality. Problem-Solving Skills: Display the ability to assess situations, identify issues, and apply appropriate solutions while adhering to established protocols and guidelines. Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and overnight shifts, as required by the organisation or the individual clients' needs.
