Chair of Risk and Audit Committee & University Governor

The University of Winchester is a confident and ambitious institution, providing a transformative educational experience through excellence in teaching and research and championing student success across a broad subject portfolio. Due to the end of term of the current incumbent, the University is seeking a new Governor to join the Board of Governors and additionally act in the capacity of Chair of the Risk and Audit Committee. Governors are appointed for an initial term of three years. The Board of Governors is responsible for the overall governance of the University, including assurance that the conditions of registration set by the Higher Education regulator are being met. The Board of Governors acts in a non-executive capacity and is not involved in day-to-day operations. In addition to duties expected of all University Governors, the Chair of the Risk and Audit Committee also plays a key role in risk management, assurance of financial accounting and statutory reporting, and ensures oversight of internal and external audit activities. The University is seeking applicants with proven experience in audit, risk management, and/or finance, ideally in higher education (or with knowledge of the sector). Given the non-executive nature of the role, proven experience of working effectively with executive/leadership teams is also essential. The University is passionate about equality, diversity, and inclusion, and welcomes applicants with a similar passion, as well as applications from all groups within society. The overall time commitment for this position is approximately twenty-five days per year (a mix of face-to-face and online/remote meetings). This appointment is of a public service nature and is therefore not remunerated. Reasonable expenses to cover travel and other direct expenses will be reimbursed. For more information about the role, including how to apply, please see the attached Candidate Information Pack. The closing date for applications is 5pm on 11 February 2025.
