Job summary

By nearly every measure, UHB is one of the largest Trusts in the NHS, with an annual turnover of 2.4 billion, employing over 24,000 staff who not only treat our local patients, but those who travel nationally for some of the most specialist services available in the country.

Our mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of the population we serve, shape an equitable and sustainable future, and create an excellent experience for our patients and staff. Many of the software products we develop are now, rightly, regulated as medical devices. We are therefore looking to strengthen our senior digital leadership team following the promotion of our current Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) to Deputy Chief Medical Officer.

The CCIO must advocate for the huge and ever-growing opportunities associated with digitisation of clinical pathways, and at the same time ensure a deep understanding of associated risk and oversee the judgements necessary in evaluating the two side-by-side.

Reporting to our Group Chief Strategy and Digital Officer and professionally accountable to our Group Chief Medical Officer, as our new CCIO, you will foster our vision for digital transformation of health and care into our clinical communities and working with our internal delivery functions, help design and deliver products and services that meet the needs and expectations of our clinical and patient community.

Main duties of the job The role will encourage clinical leadership of the digital and transformation agenda across the organisation, acting as an ambassador and influencing colleagues from all front-line professions to be involved in and provide leadership to the digital portfolio.

As a data and digital enthusiast, you will lead with a clear vision as to how health care will be received. You will champion new ways of delivery and be passionate about using technology advancement in clinical settings and the opportunities it creates. You will be inquisitive and confident to explore developments outside of the NHS.

Working as part of a wider team, the CCIO role includes leadership for and oversight of key healthcare systems such as PICS (our bespoke EPR) with collaborative support provided for autonomous IT systems, along with specialty specific systems such as Ophthalmology & Endoscopy applications.

Applications are welcomed from experienced CCIOs, but with your significant experience as a clinical leader, you will inspire and optimise the adoption of technology ensuring that this appropriately balances improving operational performance and quality of care.
