The purpose of the Chief Engineer’s role is to provide overall management of the technology-related aspects of the projects the sector delivers to meet in full the needs of MTC’s external clients. Specifically, this involves:

Main Responsibilities

Understanding our client’s problems and how MTC can support their resolution; Developing roadmaps / PALs that describe how to enhance a client’s capability; Providing technical governance to all aspects of the sector’s project portfolio; Keeping continually informed on advances in MTC capability; Contributing to marketing the sector’s impact; Development of the Industrial Sector’s growth strategy; Supporting the output of Proposals; Leading the resolution of in-train Project issues.

Person Specification

Essential Skills/Knowledge/Experience

You will be a post-graduate calibre engineer, technologist, or scientist understanding the breadth of Engineering technologies and their respective manufacturing industrial applications across the Technology theme. You will have a range of management and leadership skills along with knowledge and experience relating directly to the delivery of this management role. You will use this to lead the activities you are responsible for and to contribute to broader debates on the tactical direction of the business. The candidate should have at least five years practical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment in the delivery of Power or Energy related projects or programmes would be an advantage. This person will have a broad knowledge of modern manufacturing technologies, a strong knowledge of MTC’s technology offering and experience of delivering projects within the Aerospace, Power or Energy Sectors. Where required, advise technical leads and teams on projects to provide technical leadership and guidance in area of expertise, to mitigate issues and risks to achieve a positive outcome for MTC and its customers. Commercially aware to inform decisions that benefit MTC, customers, and to industry. Able to think strategically. Adept at using Microsoft toolset: Word, PowerPoint & Excel.
