Operations Director/COO - (Moving to Managing Director Designate)

Location: Taunton/Bristol - 5 days a week onsite

Salary: £90k starting with upside + 20% bonus + benefits and Share options in Group.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operations Director who wants to move to an MD role to join a thriving manufacturing business specializing in laboratory equipment & cleanroom solutions. This pivotal role offers the potential to progress to Managing Director within 18 months or sooner, leading an expanding entity and a chance to drive success and growth for the Group.

Key Responsibilities

Phase 1 – Operations Director:

Drive efficiency and output across post-order activities.

Lead the relocation of operations from two sites around 30 miles apart, ensuring a seamless transfer.

Collaborate with department managers (Operations, Service Support, and Technical) to streamline processes and prepare for growth.

Optimize manufacturing processes to support a planned 100% growth in revenue over five years.

Introduce software solutions to enhance the efficiency of service operations.

Continue integrating and improving systems across combined businesses.

Phase 3 – Managing Director for combined group (est. 75 staff – 15m T/O (3m Ebita)):

Take full profit and loss responsibility for the combined business.

Lead the executive team in strategy development, performance objectives, and execution.

Set and exceed KPIs for revenue, profitability, and customer satisfaction.

Build strong relationships with key partners and customers.

Foster a team culture aligned with company values to attract and retain talent.

About You The ideal candidate will already be operating at an Operations Director level within a manufacturing environment and possess the ambition and vision to step into an MD role. Key attributes include:

A proven track record of success in managing design and manufacturing operations.

Experience leading cultural and business development, driving operational improvements.

A history of launching new products, resulting in significant revenue growth.

Target-driven, with prior P&L responsibility and strong commercial acumen.

An empowering leadership style that motivates and aligns teams.
