Job offered by: The Faraday Institution
·
The Faraday Institution is the UK's flagship institute for electrochemical energy storage research, skills development, market analysis and early-stage commercialisation. We bring together research scientists and industry partners to work on projects with commercial potential that will reduce battery cost, weight, and volume; improve performance, efficiency, and reliability; develop scalable designs; improve manufacturing abilities; develop whole-life strategies; and accelerate the outputs towards commercial outcomes. Delivering technologies to help us collectively reach net zero remains one of the most fundamental and urgent science and innovation needs of our time. Battery energy storage will play an essential role in the future technology mix that will enable everything from low carbon transport – on land, air and sea – to unlocking higher penetration of renewable generation on the grid. The Faraday Institution is the focus of the UK’s national effort to support our world-leading research community to conduct battery research to industry-defined goals to ensure the country can fully seize its potential to maximise the societal, economic and environmental impact that energy storage can bring. We are now seeking to appoint our new Chief Operating Officer (COO) to succeed Susan Robertson, who steps down later in 2025. As a key member of the Senior Management Team, the COO will be responsible for a broad portfolio of corporate services, encompassing financial management, governance, and risk and support functions. This is a critical role that will ensure the stability, compliance and efficiency of the Faraday Institution as it grows. The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with strategic financial acumen and will bring an innovative and commercial mindset. You will be able to demonstrate outstanding leadership skills, ideally gained in more than one sector, and will bring a proven track record of operating at senior management level in a complex environment. You will be able to engage easily with industry, government and academia, and will bring a high degree of emotional intelligence. This role will suit someone purpose-driven who works at pace and takes a visible, inclusive approach to leadership. For further information, including details of how to apply, please visit
