Overview We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief Operating Officer (COO) who will report to our National Executive Committee. The COO will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the charity ensuring that all departments work cohesively towards achieving the charity's strategic goals. This leadership role requires a visionary leader who can provide leadership to the Board of Trustees, manage diverse teams, drive operational excellence, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Responsibilities Strong leadership skills are required to lead a team of professionals to be efficient, effective and productive. To provide leadership to the board in the management of the assets of the Union in accordance with Charity Law & Regulations. Collaborate with the President and Officers of the Union in setting and driving the organisation vision, operations and strategy. Providing effective recruitment, onboarding, professional development, performance management and retention. Build and maintain trusting relationships with key customers, members, volunteers, partners and stakeholders. Translate strategy into actionable steps for growth, implementing organisation-wide growth projects and annual operations planning. Be responsible for producing papers and information resources to Board members. Ensuring appropriate electronic and paper records are kept of Board minutes, agenda papers and resolutions. This role requires proficiency with practices, policies and procedures of the Union, including the creation and amendment of governing documents such as Bye Laws, regulations and policies as required. To provide the Trustees with relevant and correct information on which to make informed decisions and carry out their responsibilities. Ensure compliance with all legislative provisions such as FOI’s, data subject access requests and liaising with the ICO when required and other compliance agencies. Provide strategic and operational oversight to Head Office, Estate Management & Churches, monitoring performance, preparing reports and taking corrective measures where appropriate. To provide operational management to the Annual General Meeting, the setting of the AGM timetable, conference management and member notifications. Oversee and periodically review the overall governance framework for the organisation, ensure it is fit for purpose and provides clearly accountable decision making and oversight. Manage the corporate risk register and ensure that all steps to mitigate risks are documented and continually updated. Requirements Proven experience in a senior operational role, preferably as a COO or similar position of at least 5 years. Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing diverse teams effectively. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation. Strong analytical skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making. Experience in change management and driving operational improvements. Please note: There is a requirement for occasional weekend/evening working (ad-hoc) to attend monthly NEC meetings and other meetings as required due to Trustee availability at times.
