Chief Risk Officer Role Purpose: We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Chief Risk Officer to lead the development and execution of our Risk Management Strategy. The role involves overseeing the identification, assessment, and mitigation of various risks, including credit, market, liquidity, operational, and compliance risks, while ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and organisational objectives. As a key strategic partner to senior leadership, you will establish risk appetite, define risk limits, and implement robust policies and procedures to safeguard the organisations financial health and regulatory standing.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Risk Strategy & Framework:
    • Lead the creation and implementation of comprehensive Risk Management Strategy.
    • Establish risk appetite, set risk limits, and ensure adherence to risk management policies.
    • Provide independent input to the Board and senior management to define and align the organisations risk strategy and appetite.
  2. Risk Identification & Assessment:
    • Identify and assess key risks (credit, market, operational, liquidity, compliance) across all business units.
    • Collaborate with departments to ensure proper identification, evaluation, and management of risks.
    • Monitor the external operating environment (economic trends, geopolitical events, regulatory changes) to anticipate emerging risks.
  3. Risk Mitigation & Control:
    • Develop and oversee risk control frameworks and mitigation strategies.
    • Monitor and assess risk exposure, recommending actions as needed to protect the organisation.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry best practices.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Act as the primary contact for all risk-related issues with the CEO, Executive team, Board, regulators, auditors, and key stakeholders.
    • Build and maintain trusted relationships across internal and external parties.
    • Ensure risk considerations are integrated into business decisions and strategic initiatives.
  5. Leadership & Team Development:
    • Lead and manage the Banks Risk teams, ensuring alignment with business objectives and the risk landscape.
    • Foster a high-performance, diverse, and empowered team culture.
    • Provide mentorship and development opportunities for team members, ensuring a pipeline of talent for future leadership roles.
  6. Governance & Operational Excellence:
    • Ensure effective risk governance and streamline decision-making processes.
    • Chair risk management meetings, ensuring clarity, purpose, and efficient execution.
    • Regularly review risk reporting and ensure it aligns with business goals and risk appetite.

Key Requirements:

  1. Experience & Knowledge:
    • Solid understanding of risk management frameworks, policies, and the regulatory environment.
    • Extensive experience in managing a diverse range of risks (credit, market, operational, etc.).
    • Proven track record in leading risk management functions, with a strong understanding of capital management and financial services.
  2. Skills & Capabilities:
    • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance growth and risk, driving business objectives while managing potential risks.
    • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to resolve uncertainty and manage complex challenges.
    • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with a collaborative approach to working with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
    • Ability to develop and lead high-performing teams, fostering a culture of transparency, trust, and continuous improvement.
  3. Qualifications:
    • A degree in Risk Management, Finance, or a related field (advanced qualifications preferred).
    • Professional certifications in Risk Management (e.g., FRM, PRM) would be a plus.
