This is an exciting opportunity to join Midlothian's Family Wellbeing Service as a Children's Practitioner on a fixed term basis. The Family Wellbeing Service works across Midlothian and aims to provide flexible, holistic support to families in need. The service supports families with children aged 0-18 in an effort to avoid statutory intervention. The service works in partnership with multi-agency colleagues to create bespoke plans that support families to overcome obstacles with housing, finances, education and wellbeing.
We are looking for a Children's Practitioner to deliver high quality support services to families in Midlothian. This will involve assessing needs, planning and delivering focused interventions to support children and families with developing plans to help improve family wellbeing, school attendance and attainment.
We are seeking a Practitioner with experience in working alongside vulnerable families to assess strengths and needs as well as plan and deliver support and interventions which enable families to thrive. It is essential that candidates share our vision that collaborative working and relationship-based early intervention is the best means of supporting children and families.
KNOWLEDGE:
Essential: Educated to HNC social care or SVQ Level 3 (children and young people) or equivalent with a relevant discipline. Experience of working with the national and local practice, policy, procedure and legislation relevant to the post. This includes an awareness of the SSSC Code of Practice, Human Rights legislation, United Nation Convention of the Rights of Child and getting it right for every child. Have experience of working with children and families including child development, and trauma-based interventions. Knowledge and understanding of a range of systemic interventions and methodologies, such as attachment promoting, trauma-based therapy, child development and parenting capacity. Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of key agencies.
Desirable: Experience of delivering parenting programmes or other group work. Specialist experience of working with children and families in crisis or at risk. Behavioural Interview skills. Family mediation skills.

Please note that it is Midlothian Council's policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale. Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £32,892.18 per annum.
