We now have exciting permanent opportunities for motivated and suitably qualified Civil Design Engineers to join our Technical Communities based in the South West of England. Job Summary
The Nuclear Civil Design Engineer is responsible for designing, analysing, and overseeing the construction of civil structures within nuclear power plants and related facilities.
Responsibilities:
Main Activities
- Carrying out and coordinating review and acceptance of deliverables in their scope of activity.
- Producing building specific documents such as handover reports or hypothesis notes.
- Responsibility of raising and following up of building specific technical open points as a first point of contact for the civil designer.
- Supporting the civil building lead for the resolution of transverse/ complex technical open points.
- Supporting the civil building lead and contract engineering lead in coordination with stakeholders for producing the design.
- Coordinating and carrying out the resolution of building specific technical topics and track the evolution of these activities in their scope of activity.
Design and Development
- Develop detailed civil and structural designs for nuclear facilities, including containment structures, cooling towers, and support buildings.
- Using engineering tools to create design drawings and specifications.
- Ensure designs meet all relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including calculations, drawings, and technical reports.
- Review and approve design documents from contractors and subcontractors.
- Communicate design changes and updates to all stakeholders.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and system engineers.
- Attend and contribute to design review meetings and workshops.
- Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and other external parties as needed.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and proven attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in civil design engineering, preferably within the nuclear industry.
- Structural analysis software such as Tekla or STAAD Pro.
- 3D viewer software such as Navisworks and/or PDMS.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering design codes, particularly Eurocodes.
