Civilian Events Marketing Clerk

The primary function for this role is the management, co-ordination, delivery, staffing and reporting of all Civil and Civic engagement matters and effect for Colchester Garrison. Working directly to Commander Colchester Garrison and the Garrison Sergeant Major (GSM), the incumbent is required to plan out to 24 months in detail and to develop a strategy of creating high impact opportunities i.e. wide recognition, interest, engagement and media interest etc with minimal resources including workforce, equipment and hospitality. All activity is to align with higher command objectives to enable recruiting, strengthen and maintain the Army’s connection with society and to enhance reputation. What you’ll do: Provide the focal point for civic engagement activity across Essex acting as the principal liaison officer to Joint Military Command Centre (Cottesmore), 16 Air Assault Brigade (and their subordinate units), Regional Forces Cadet Association, local units (Regular, Reserve and Cadets) across Essex, AF Champions in Boroughs, City Councils, Unitary Authorities, local businesses, Service charities, schools, universities, community interest groups and the general public. Filter requests and engagement opportunities in line with priorities. Identify, develop and contribute to the design of any civic engagement plan, directive or instruction and review as an enduring activity. Support drafting business cases for use of MOD resources for civic engagement activity. Act as the Garrison and County wide Armed Forces Champion in accordance with MOD / Army direction and policy. Coordinate the appropriate approval process and monitor requests for civic engagement support to Colchester Garrison, seeking to respond positively to requests which may have tangible benefit to Defence in order to promote an understanding of the Army and Colchester Garrison with local communities, or provide income generation using Defence assets. Functional organisational design, support and co-ordination to key Colchester ceremonial and civic events, including The Royal Gun Salute, Remembrance Day parades, and the biennial 16 Air Assault Brigade and Colchester Garrison Show. Attend any meeting with a civic engagement focus including off-site, weekend and evening events. Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Information and Business Support Assistant, who will provide civic engagement support and general administrative duties in the office including mail, gym passes, conference room bookings, staff training records. Articulate verbal and written communication skills and to be used at ease in environments where often people do not know each other and the art of being able to initiate positive conversation and to put people at ease is imperative. Underpinning this ability is the skill to manage, plan and co-ordinate activity and major events including Remembrance Service, Royal Salute and the 16 Air Assault Brigade and Colchester Garrison Show. Keep current and adhere to all MOD policies and procedures relating to civic engagement and provide practical delivery of this within the organization. Act appropriately in support of the Authority client, but within the overall terms of the PFI contract, balancing any potential frictions to maintain contract compliance. What you bring: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrate the ability to work in a successful team, work in collaboration and promote a sense of belonging for everyone involved. Able to do so through the creation and exploitation of virtual team environments as well as face to face. Professional demeanor which generates credibility amongst internal/external customers, staff and client. 5 GCE/GCSE passes at Grade C or above or equivalent; and A level pass at Grade E or above or equivalent; or NVQ Management Level 3 or 4. Demonstrable experience of using MS Share Point and all MS Office products to an appropriate standard e.g. ECDL. To be well presented and well turned-out when engaged in public facing activities. Experience of working in an Army environment including knowledge of the recruiting of Regulars and Reservists, events management, Armed Forces civilian transitioning, previous experience liaising with local government, public officials, Armed Forces champions, service charities and veteran organizations, and the private business sector. Knowledge and experience of key leader engagement and relationship building. Experience of public fund management and budgets. Experience of social media platforms as a public relations tool.
