We are seeking a Clinical Career Development Fellowship in Multi-Cancer Early Detection. The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Nora Pashayan.
The Centre for Cancer Genetic Epidemiology (CCGE) is one of the leading centres for research into the genetics of cancer which sits within the Department of Public Health and Primary Care (DPHPC).
This exciting opportunity is ideal for an outstanding clinician scientist with expertise in public health, epidemiology, or data science to establish an independent research career and compete for advanced post-doctoral fellowships from Cancer Research UK, Research Councils, the Wellcome Trust, and other major funders.
The successful applicant will have an outstanding record of research and its communication in the field of cancer prevention and early detection. The postholder will be required to work independently, in active collaboration with multidisciplinary partners and engage with national organisations. Designing and delivering high quality research focused on risk prediction and computational modelling in cancer early detection and prevention of co-morbidities. The role involves developing, evaluating cost-effective and implementable strategies to improve cancer diagnosis, early detection, and prediction and will also contribute to the Department's cross-cutting research themes. The successful candidate will have GMC Registration and Licence to Practice.
Main duties and responsibilities of the job:
Conduct research aligned with the Department's priorities in advancing risk prediction, early detection, and the prevention of cancer and other co-morbidities using machine learning and simulation approaches. Demonstrate creativity and initiative to generate new ideas, bring intellectual energy, and apply independent thinking to drive impactful and multidisciplinary research. Secure a prestigious external fellowship to establish independent research career. Communicate complex research ideas and findings effectively through high-quality scientific papers, policy discussions, and presentations at national and international meetings. Contribute to the Department's education and training activities. Foster a collegial environment and actively contribute to the research team's initiatives and the Department's broader objectives. Engage with external stakeholders and strengthen partnerships with national organisations, such as NHS England, the Office for Heath Improvement and Disparities, and the UK National Screening Committee. Participate in CCGE and DPHPC activities, meetings, and seminars, as appropriate. The funding for this post is available for 36 months from commencement in post. This is a full-time position.
