Job summary To act as qualified Clinical Engineer and work towards application for professional registration. Has achieved competencies in a wide range of technical tasks including scheduled and corrective maintenance and calibration of medical devices. Continues to grow range of specialist technical competencies as defined by the technical competency framework. Provides supervisory support for lower grades and facilitates peer to peer training. Signs off competencies for achievement levels below their own. Option to progress to Level 5 diploma or Level 6 degree with the Clinical Engineering training scheme as appropriate. Main duties of the job Plans own work in cooperation with the team leader and other engineers Performs tasks and duties on a wide range of medical devices including complex systems Acts on own initiative to solve complex technical problems with multi-disciplinary teams allied to clinical engineering. Identifies suitable engineering solutions to suit customer/patient needs. Conducts internal audits for the quality system Provides supervisory support for lower grade technicians/assistants and signs off competencies for achievement levels below their own Aims to grow a range of specialist technical competencies Diagnoses faults in medical devices including those beyond the scope of the manufacturers supplied information Maintains service schedules and other equipment records Gives technical advice to other professions and colleagues when required Contributes to service protocols, risk assessments, evaluations and work instructions for medical equipment. Supports the training of lower grade technical staff as appropriate Performs audits and checks on the work of third party service providers Provides some medical device user training on the use of complex patient critical equipment for Clinical and Technical Staff. Trains other Clinical Engineers/Technicians in a range of medical devices management techniques and methods. Core Duties Performs a range of technical activities for the management of medical devices, including repair, preventative maintenance, calibration, performance and safety checks, acceptance checks on new equipment and withdrawal of equipment at the end of its life. Knowledge and Experience Essential Demonstrable experience in clinical engineering workshop practices and techniques Demonstrable evidence in Risk Assessment practices and performance Knowledge and experience of ISO9001:2015 Demonstrable evidence of Training others in maintenance and repair of medical devices Desirable Demonstrable portfolio of experience Qualifications Essential Degree qualification in engineering or equivalent (minimum - Level 4 qualification in engineering plus extensive demonstrable relevant experience) Eligible for professional registration Evidence of continuous professional development Desirable Member of the RCT or AHCS or working towards
