Would you like to join a team that makes a real difference every day and at the same time expand your knowledge and experience of palliative care? If so, then we would really love to hear from you. The post will provide an excellent opportunity to gain experience and skills in a supportive palliative care setting, for those considering a career in palliative medicine (either through specialty training or as a specialty doctor), allied medical specialties or general practice or for those wishing to take a pause in their career plan. Though not a training post, the opportunity for training will be available under the supervision of an accredited palliative medicine consultant. Education is a priority and there is an opportunity to partake in internal and external teaching sessions as desired. We are research active and have a research group that works closely with Staffordshire University on collaborative projects. There are ample opportunities to develop your interest in the specialty through regular medical educational sessions, such as teaching ward rounds.
We are currently looking for a doctor to join our team as a clinical fellow who shares our passion for providing excellent, personalized and compassionate care to patients and their families within our recently refurbished In-Patient unit. The Clinical Fellow will work primarily on the 26-bed hospice adult in-patient unit, clerking new patients, participating in independent and senior-led ward rounds, and contributing to daily ward management and weekly MDTs. This role offers invaluable experience in advanced symptom control for cancer and non-malignant conditions such as heart failure, chronic lung disease, and neurological disorders. It also provides opportunities to develop communication skills through observation and supervised consultations. The role can be adapted to suit the post holder's skills and experience. You will work alongside the Medical Director, Specialty Doctors, ANPs, Specialty Trainees, and IMTs on ward rounds, with the potential to see community patients if desired. Regular educational sessions, including journal clubs and grand rounds, are provided.
The post includes a 1:6 non-resident first on-call rota, supported by the on-call Consultant in Palliative Medicine. Applicants must have full GMC registration and a Licence to Practise at the time of application. The post is suitable for those who have completed a foundation programme, with a postgraduate qualification such as MRCP or MRCGP preferred. Candidates must demonstrate effective communication skills in English, as outlined in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013).
