Job summary

Overview We wish to appoint a Clinical Fellow to join our Critical Care team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT). Job purpose This role will support the running of both Critical Care units in Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals, as well as provide on-call services across both sites.

This role will complement our current junior and middle grade rotas to continue to provide the high level of care for which our units are proud to deliver.

Integral to the responsibilities of our posts are the following objectives: To ensure the delivery of a high-quality patient-centred clinical service To work in accordance with our trust's procedures and operating policies To work within the framework of team decisions To show initiative, enthusiasm, and flexibility

Main duties of the job You will form part of the resident team and out of hours provide airway cover for the unit. Daytime work consists of taking part in daily ward rounds, undertaking procedures and jobs to support the care of Critical Care patients along with reviewing referrals. You will also support the Outreach team and work closely with the wider Critical Care MDT.

Job description Job responsibilities

The Critical Care service is led by Clinical Lead, Simon Webster, and comprises 18 other Consultants.

Our Critical Care services are delivered across two units, one at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital site and one at the Cheltenham General site.

The two units admit approximately 1,500 patients a year and support elective surgical services including Upper GI resection work, head and neck cancer services, and a busy vascular unit. We also have a busy medical admissions workload supporting all specialties including interventional cardiology, haematology, oncology, respiratory, and renal medicine.

We pride ourselves on our MDT approach to patient care and the flat hierarchy within our units. We have the support of an excellent outreach team across both our sites and work closely together to ensure the best patient care.

The Gloucestershire Critical Care department is a dynamic, hard-working unit that delivers excellent outcomes for our patients and is a fantastic place to work, learn, and contribute. Clinical responsibilities

Provide care to Critical Care patients Review Critical Care referrals from throughout the hospital Support the provision of an on-call rota in a 1:8 frequency Support the MDT in Critical Care Participate in shared decision-making for ongoing management of Critical Care patients Take part in audit Assist in recruitment to ongoing research projects

Education and training While these posts are not educationally approved nor recognised by the Royal College for training purposes, they are educationally sound and well supported. The department offers weekly formal teaching sessions on Friday afternoons to which all staff are encouraged to attend. Continuing professional development The department encourages post holders to take part in audit and Quality Improvement (QI) activity on the units. In addition, the department is active in recruiting for several ongoing research projects, and opportunities to take part, including taking on the role of associate Principal Investigator, are encouraged. Clinical Governance The department of Critical Care has robust Clinical governance processes with a monthly CG meeting and two monthly mortality and morbidity reviews.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential

Full General Medical Council registration Clinical Experience Essential

Minimum of 6-12 months anaesthetic experience and completion of IAC Ability to manage independently an airway out of hours Ability to work closely with the Critical Care MDT Desirable
