Job Summary We wish to appoint a Clinical Fellow to join our Critical Care team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT). This role will support the running of both Critical Care units in Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals, as well as the provision of on-call services across both sites. This role will complement our current junior and middle grade rotas to continue to provide the high level of care for which our units are proud to deliver. Integral to the responsibilities of our posts are the following objectives: To ensure the delivery of a high-quality patient-centred clinical service To work in accordance with our trust's procedures and operating policies To work within the framework of team decisions To show initiative, enthusiasm, and flexibility Main Duties of the Job You will form part of the resident team and out of hours provide airway cover for the unit. Daytime work consists of taking part in daily ward rounds, undertaking procedures and jobs to support the care of Critical Care patients along with reviewing referrals. You will also support the Outreach team and work closely with the wider Critical Care MDT. You could make a real difference to our patients' lives by joining our team. Job Responsibilities The Critical Care service is led by Clinical Lead, Simon Webster. The Critical Care service comprises of 18 other Consultants and is delivered across two units: one on the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital site and one on the Cheltenham General site. The two units admit approximately 1,500 patients a year and support elective surgical services, including Upper GI resection work, head and neck cancer services, three counties Gynae-Oncology services, and a busy vascular unit. We pride ourselves on our MDT approach to patient care and the flat hierarchy within our units. We have the support of an excellent outreach team across both our sites and work closely together to ensure the best patient care. Clinical Responsibilities Provide care to Critical Care patients Review Critical Care referrals from throughout the hospital Support the provision of an on-call rota in a 1:8 frequency Support the MDT on Critical Care Participate in shared decision making for ongoing management of Critical Care patients Take part in audit Assist in recruitment to ongoing research projects Education and Training While these posts are not educationally approved nor recognized by the Royal College for training purposes, they are educationally sound and well supported. The department offers weekly formal teaching sessions on Friday afternoons to which all staff are encouraged to attend. Continuing Professional Development The department encourages post holders to participate in audit and Quality Improvement (QI) activities on the units. Additionally, the department is active in recruiting to several ongoing research projects, and opportunities to take part, including taking on the role of associate Principal Investigator, are encouraged. Clinical Governance The department of Critical Care has robust Clinical Governance processes with a monthly CG meeting and bi-monthly mortality and morbidity reviews. Person Specification Qualifications Essential Full General Medical Council registration Clinical Experience Essential Minimum of 6-12 months anaesthetic experience and completion of IAC Ability to manage independently an airway out of hours Ability to work closely with Critical Care MDT Desirable Previous Critical Care experience ALS APLS Essential Personal Attributes Essential Flexibility and willingness to work together with colleagues to support on-call commitments Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues Able to work co-operatively as a team member Desirable Previous Critical Care experience Ability to think laterally
