Our Values We are KIND We are OPEN We pursue EXCELLENCE An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic senior pharmacy assistant to join the Pharmacy Clinical Governance and Quality Assurance teams based at York Hospital. The Clinical Governance team aims to ensure the safe and effective management of medicines throughout the Trust by monitoring practice in medicines management to ensure that policies and procedures are implemented effectively. They also produce and deliver education and training that promotes compliance with medicines management processes throughout the Trust and improves patient safety. The Quality Assurance Team ensures that the quality of pharmacy services is effectively monitored and continually improves. As a member of this team, you will help implement and maintain all aspects of the pharmacy quality management system including document management. You will monitor, test and maintain assets, such as the Trust fridge temperature monitoring and delivery systems. You will need to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, be well organised and able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for assisting in the management of the quality management system within the department and ensure compliance with national legislation and medicines management standards both within the pharmacy department and the wider organisation. Tasks include: Assist with the daily maintenance of the Quality Management System, including document control and asset monitoring. Assisting with temperature monitoring within the pharmacy department and wider organisation. Assist in the management of controlled prescription stationery. Assist with the management of controlled drugs within both the department and wider organisation. Assist with the management of medicine cupboard keys within both the department and wider organisation. Internal audits and implement actions. Recent experience of working as a senior pharmacy assistant within a hospital environment would be beneficial but not essential as training will be given. All candidates should be positive about the extended role of pharmacy assistants and keen to develop themselves, their role and work of the team. You will be based in the pharmacy department in York Hospital but may be required to work at other Trust sites on occasion. Core service hours are Monday to Friday 08:45 – 17:15. You will contribute to the weekend rota (1 in 8 weekends) and bank holiday rota (1 per year). You will have a regular dispensary slot once a week where you will dispense. Education

QCF level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Services – to include units relevant to post. You must have proof of qualifications. Experience

Ability to work to protocols, procedures and SOPs and suggest changes where necessary. Competency training and experience in a specialist area of pharmacy service such as aseptics, stock management, or dispensing. If not already acquired, this must be gained within one year of taking up post. Hospital pharmacy experience. Skills

Ability to use a range of computer programmes relevant to the post. Effective use of initiative. Ability to work in a team environment and alone. Understands the needs of customers, including patients and staff. Flexible to changing work routines and demands. Effective time management and ability to work within time constraints. Ability to handle moderate loads. Good communication & interpersonal skills. Ability to plan & prioritise own workload in the face of changing demands. Values
