Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Lead to join our Nursing and Care Team. This role will require the successful candidate to provide high quality front-line clinical leadership, education, and expertise within a House leadership team (House Manager, Deputy House Manager / Deputy Clinical Lead and Clinical Lead per house) responsible for one house within a twelve-month rotational model.

Main Duties of the Job

Being a member of the senior site management team, ensuring that there is senior clinical support and leadership on site at all times. It also includes the practice educator role and that of the clinical nurse specialist in a designated specialty of clinical care. This will include activities such as planning and delivering house-based training programmes, ensuring best practice and evidence-based care, chairing key meetings and working clinically across all areas of the organisation.

With experience of working in a complex environment, across a large and diverse workforce, you will be exceptionally organised with a high level of attention to detail. You will naturally possess excellent inter-personal skills, and an ability to consult and positively engage with key stakeholders across the organisation.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

Work collaboratively as a member of a House leadership team comprising of a House Manager, Deputy House Manager / Deputy Clinical Lead and Clinical Lead per house participating in the senior site manager rota.

Serve as the visible source of clinical leadership and support for your assigned House.

Develop and deliver bespoke individualised education packages on House for all staff within your allocated House.

Identify training needs specific to the children and young people residing in your allocated House and address through packages of on-site training.

Work collaboratively with other clinical leads to ensure consistency of offer and sharing of best practice.

Ensure any potential or actual Safeguarding concerns are promptly managed and reported as required.

Identify and troubleshoot staffing issues. During working hours, this is alongside the House Manager and Deputy House Manager/Deputy Clinical Lead.

Lead the clinical and non-clinical emergency response team (bleep holder) when allocated to do so.

Respond to any clinical complaints raised on allocated House and resolve informally wherever possible.

Respond to any incidents identified or reported on allocated House, ensuring safety is maintained and IRAR completed.

Undertake other or additional duties that are within your skills and abilities, as the organisation may reasonably require from time to time.

Practice Education

Demonstrate the ability to lead, plan, develop, deliver, assess, and evaluate a range of educational programmes in collaboration with other clinical leads and clinical education.

Support the clinical education team in developing and implementing varied teaching programmes that clearly reflect the child's health needs, current best practice and local/national initiatives.

Lead on a range of identified teaching and assessing projects, including planning, developing, delivering, assessing, and evaluating them.

Initiate a variety of educational approaches to meet the aims and objectives of the individual and the Children's Trust's needs.

Maintain a high profile within the related clinical area and Directorate, providing all levels of nursing and care staff with clinical education, support, and advice in patient care delivery.

Work closely with House Managers to assist in delivering the House goals and objectives. Fulfil a clinical leadership role that supports, guides, and develops clinical staff in practice.

Lead the development and maintenance of an environment that values education as part of the practice area's philosophy.

Provide clinical supervision and coaching, both within and external to the team, to support the development of other individuals practice.

Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Children's Trust.

Always maintain professional boundaries and professional conduct.

Clinical Lead

Lead one or more specialist areas of practice as part of the wider clinical lead team. These areas may include respiratory care, resuscitation, intravenous therapy, tissue viability, pain management, nutritional and feeding care, infection prevention and control, students and apprenticeships, and epilepsy. Ensure consistent upskilling of other clinical leads in relation to specialist area of practice.

Lead on their allocated specialist area to ensure best practice across site. This will include leading regular special interest groups, creating and updating policies and planning and delivering training across site.

Support the management of individual children by assessing and advising on care planning and contributing to direct care as appropriate.

Contribute to the assessments of children referred to The Children's Trust and completion of referral screening reports.

Collaborate with other members of the MDT to ensure practice is evidence-based and shared across all relevant teams.

Establish links with other specialists in the field to share good practice.

Audit/Quality Improvement

Incorporate evidence-based practice and current, relevant research into the teaching and assessing, directly related to the topic of the identified education programmes.

Collaborate with others and influence the development of new policies and protocols for the management/treatment of children/young people with complex health needs.

Lead, implement, and manage change in clinical care delivery in response to educational needs, national or local priorities/initiatives.

Actively participate in identified Trust committees and groups, contributing to the development and implementation of local and national strategies.

Contribute to the clinical governance process, including risk assessment, incident reporting and investigation.

Governance

Read and implement all policies, procedures, and risk assessments, pertinent to working practice and keep up to date with policy changes as they occur.

Critically reflect on your own performance and that of other staff, using this evaluation to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of future practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Children's Nurse with current revalidation status. Educated to 1st degree level. NMC mentor or Practice Assessor. Safeguarding Level 3. PILS or APLS. Further education or teaching qualifications, or currently working towards them (or significant relevant experience). Ability to demonstrate experience in providing training and development in a clinical environment. Experience

Experience of working with children with disability or complex health needs. Experience of operational management and/or leadership roles at band 6 or above in a relevant setting. Experience of supervising/assessing students or colleagues. Experience responding to complaints and/or safeguarding concerns. Experience assessing and managing deteriorating children.
