Clinical Member - Neurosurgery & Spinal Surgery CRG

Specialised services support people with a range of rare and complex conditions. They often involve treatments provided to patients with rare cancers, genetic disorders or complex medical or surgical conditions.

We are now seeking applications from clinical professionals who are keen and ready to take on national leadership roles in Specialised Commissioning.

Most importantly, we are seeking individuals from a broad range of clinical disciplines and backgrounds, who can bring fresh thinking and innovative ideas, informed by recent experience of clinical delivery in NHS Specialised healthcare.

Main duties of the job

Clinical members are a key part of the ‘Lead and Inform’ and ‘Transform’ CRGs. CRG membership should be broad and representative of the specialties and sub-specialties covered by the CRG, including medical, nursing, pharmacy and allied healthcare professionals as appropriate.

The role of the CRGs is to lead the development of clinical commissioning policy, service specifications and quality dashboards, advise on service reviews, conduct horizon scanning and advise on innovation, identify and explore opportunities to reduce clinical variation in healthcare and to deliver value. They also provide advice to assist in answering parliamentary and ministerial questions and other correspondence and provide other ad hoc advice where required.

The appointment, which is offered on a non-remunerated basis, is for a period of up to three years, with an annual review of progress. It is important that the clinical member has the full support of their employer to be able to commit time, flexibly, to the role.

About us

NHS England and NHS Improvement came together on 1 April 2019 as a new single organisation. The NHS Long Term Plan focuses on delivering integrated care to patients at the local level and we can best support the NHS to deliver this as a single integrated organisation.

Our new operating model represents a strong shift to regional delivery supported by expert corporate teams. Local health systems are supported by our integrated regional teams who play a major leadership role in the geographies they manage.

We are jointly committed to creating and maintaining a fair and supportive working environment and culture, where contributions are fully recognised and valued by all and staff feel empowered to carry out their duties to the best of their abilities. As employers, we are committed to promoting and protecting the physical and mental health and well-being of all our staff. This underpins our values as set out in the NHS Constitution, supports us to be an Employer of Choice and ultimately enables our employees to support the effective care of our patients.

Job responsibilities

Clinical members are a key part of the ‘Lead and Inform’ and ‘Transform’ CRGs. CRG membership should be broad and representative of the specialties and sub-specialties covered by the CRG, including medical, nursing, pharmacy and allied healthcare professionals as appropriate.
