We are recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist - Children and Young People's Diabetes Team who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, dynamic and forward-thinking professional who is committed to enhancing and developing the service. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will demonstrate a level of expertise within the specialist service, providing specialist advice, education and support to healthcare professionals, schools, voluntary organisations, and parents/carers. You will have a key role in the management of these children in the community or referring hospital. You will be supporting children, young people, and their families from diagnosis through to transition to adult services. This is an ideal opportunity for career progression for a paediatric nurse with experience in looking after children with diabetes. You will receive a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £1,258 and a maximum payment of £2,121. Main duties of the job

Work collaboratively with all members of the Multidisciplinary team that constitutes the Diabetes service at the East and North Herts NHS Trust to deliver effective, high-quality, safe patient-centred care. Contribute to the continuing education, training, and professional development of the nursing staff to promote the acquisition of new skills and knowledge in the clinical areas. Support the MDT to deliver best practice for all patients and their families, driving forward a programme to ensure excellent care delivery. Lead and support junior staff to ensure a high-quality service is delivered in line with national guidance, mentoring and supporting junior staff and students, and line managing staff ensuring appraisals and objectives are up to date. Work closely with adult services to ensure a smooth transition pathway. Qualifications / Training

Registered nurse education to degree level, or willingness to undertake. Post-registration qualification in CYP diabetes and insulin pump therapy. Evidence of continuous professional development. Willingness to undertake further training as required. Teaching qualification. Previous Experience

Significant relevant experience in CYP diabetes and ability to demonstrate expert nursing skills. Accept personal accountability for own practice. Experience of formal/informal teaching. Experience of initiating change. Understanding evidence-based practice. Experience of Clinical Governance. Understanding of patient pathways in CYP diabetes. Skills

Good verbal and written communication skills. Capable of working as an integral member of a specialist team. Flexible and adaptable to changing situations due to workload and colleagues’ needs. Ability to undertake teaching of staff and patients. Ability to work unsupervised and manage own workload; effective time management. Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to lead developments in practice. Commitment to multi-disciplinary working. Ability to quickly appraise situations and act accordingly. Demonstrate good level of computer literacy. Advanced communication skills. Knowledge

Knowledge of children’s related legislation e.g. GIRFT, Best practice tariff CYPD knowledge, NPDA, Children’s Act. Knowledge of Health & Safety Practices including Lone working.
