We are recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

We are looking for a highly motivated qualified nurse who can demonstrate current experience/significant experience at Band 6/7 working in the field of lung cancer or oncology care or screening.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of lung cancer care services within the trust as agreed with the Lead Nurse, in accordance with Trust and national guidance.

You will work with patients being investigated and having a confirmed diagnosis of lung cancer or Mesothelioma, ensuring that national targets are met in the delivery of the care.

Main duties of the job Liaising with all appropriate members of the multi-disciplinary team and ensuring a seamless service between acute and primary care services. Communicating very sensitive condition-related information to patients and relatives, requiring high levels of empathy and reassurance. This includes highly complex information that needs to be conveyed in easily understood language. Ensuring the provision of appropriate verbal and written patient information, thus empowering the patient to make informed decisions. Maintain own knowledge, competence, and skill level through regular clinical supervision, appraisal, personal development plans, and appropriate training programmes. Work in partnership with other professional, health and social care organisations, trade union and voluntary sector organisations to embed these principles.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Registered nurse education to Degree level or willingness to undertake. Post registration qualification in speciality or experience. Evidence of continuous professional development. Teaching qualification. Advanced communication skills/counselling qualification or willingness to undertake. Advanced clinical assessment or willingness to undertake.

Desirable Research Module Masters Degree.

Previous experience Essential Significant relevant experience in the Specialty or another and ability to demonstrate expert nursing skills. Accept personal accountability for own practice. Experience of formal/informal teaching. Experience of initiating change. Understanding evidence-based practice. Experience of Clinical Governance. Understanding of patient pathways and its complexities and how to support patients through this.

Skills Essential Good verbal and written communication skills. Capable of working as an integral member of a small team. Flexible and adaptable to changing situations due to workload and colleague's needs. Ability to undertake teaching of staff and patients. Leadership skills. Ability to work unsupervised and manage own workload effective time-management. Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to lead developments in practice. Commitment to multi-disciplinary working. Demonstrate analytical and judgmental skills. Ability to quickly appraise situation and act accordingly.

Desirable Advanced communication skills.

Other Requirements Essential To act in a professional manner at all times in accordance with NMC Code of Conduct. Capable of developing liaisons with other practice areas/academic situations. Experience and evidence of engagement around equality, diversity and inclusion issues in relation to policy, service development and service delivery in respect of both services to users and the management of staff. Desirable Post registration qualification in speciality.
