As a role model for cancer nursing practice, you will have skills in clinical and managerial expertise to assess, manage and treat patients, as well as working towards supporting and leading on the introduction of new initiatives and pathways. You will have post-registration experience in oncology/palliative care, advanced communication skills, and a non-medical prescribing qualification.
Within this role you will be required to develop the skills of clinical leadership, managing change, running nurse-led services and clinics, supporting teaching programmes and presenting at all levels (with the support of senior colleagues), with knowledge of managing resources, people, and situations effectively, whilst keeping a calm head in a challenging environment.
This is a part-time position (31.5 hours per week)
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Team in providing a service for the ongoing management of patients within Cornwall suffering from Lung cancer. The post holder will initially be based in the specialty of General Surgery and Cancer. The post holder will be an experienced nurse who uses specialist knowledge and skills to support Lung Cancer patients and their families. They will provide them with emotional and psychological support, information about their disease and treatment pathways, and refer to other agencies, both in and out of Trust, as needed. The post holder will be able to take a relevant history and clinical assessment to develop a management plan and evaluate the progress of that plan within the limitations of their knowledge and skills while being supported by medical and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. They will demonstrate clinical judgement and critical decision-making skills based upon established guidelines.
