South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust seeks to recruit multiple pharmacists to our team of Band 6 rotational pharmacists undertaking a structured foundation training programme that includes the opportunity for educational and financial support for the clinical diploma, advanced clinical skills and formal prescribing qualification.

The Pharmacy service and its team are fully embedded into the wider clinical specialties and this is reflected in the fact that we operate a seven-day clinical service across the two sites. Our modern service benefits from full electronic prescribing, decision support and automated dispensaries in our main inpatient and outpatient sites.

Main duties of the job After a structured eight-week induction programme you will join the clinical teams on a rotational programme delivering Integrated Medicines Management at the bedside. You will spend over 90% of your time outside of dispensaries on direct patient care which will include clinical experience in admission and discharge management, consultant ward rounds, medicines information and chemotherapy and TPN. You will gain experience of caring for patients in general medicine, general surgery, surgical specialties, elderly care and emergency medicine.

You will be a registered Pharmacist with a positive and flexible approach, seeking clinically-focused practice and have the desire to develop clinical decision making and prescribing skills.

Trainee pharmacists are welcome to apply, including anyone who wishes to transfer into the Hospital sector.

37.5 hours per week, including weekend and evening working. When working a weekend, employees are allocated two rest days the following week.

Job responsibilities

Responsible for delivering basic clinical pharmacy services to a defined clinical area on a rotational basis.

To be responsible for the delivery of an agreed standard of clinical care to patients to achieve safe, effective and economic use of medicines.

Undertake risk management of pharmacy clinical services in a defined area.

Undertake the role of responsible pharmacist.

To undertake teaching and clinical supervision of pre-registration pharmacists, technicians and students.

Person Specification Qualifications

MPharm or equivalent.

GPhC registration.

Skills

Good communication skills (verbal and written).

Clinical Pharmacy skills.

Ability to work in a team and as an individual.

Ability to turn theory into practice.

Experience

One year as a Trainee Pharmacist.

Interest in clinical pharmacy.

Disposition

Ability to work in a professional manner with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Perform effectively in stressful circumstances.

Requirement for you to work at various sites across the Trust and provide a service often at short notice.
