An exciting opportunity to be part of an integrated multi-professional team providing community neuro rehabilitation to stroke, acquired brain injury (ABI), and other neurological patients. The post is based at the Park Road Wellbeing Centre, Pontypool. It involves supporting the development and implementation of a service for people diagnosed with Non Epileptic Attack Disorder. This will involve working closely with colleagues from the ABUHB Neurology Directorate and Health Psychology Service. The post holder will also contribute to the provision of assessment and rehabilitation service for patients recovering from stroke and acquired brain injury. Working within the ABUHB CNRS the post holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes clinical psychologists, neuro-physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, speech and language therapy, and rehabilitation assistants. The post holder will be expected to undertake face to face work with individuals, groups, significant others, and families, as well as consultation work advising staff of other disciplines on the psychological aspects of casework and patient management plans. They will also be expected to provide specialist advice, teaching, and training about psychological work to less experienced psychologists, counsellors, assistants, trainees, other professionals, and carers. Main duties of the job

To provide psychological services to adults with neurological conditions in ABUHB in agreement with the Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service Lead(s). This includes face to face work with individuals, groups, families, significant others, and consultation work advising staff of other disciplines on the psychological aspects of casework and patient management plans. It involves conducting psychological assessments and the delivery of appropriate therapeutic interventions for the full range of referred difficulties accepted by the service. To provide specialist advice, teaching, training, and supervision of psychological work to assistant psychologists, trainees, other professionals, and carers. To conduct, develop and evaluate specialised programmes of care / care packages, and propose changes for policy / service development. To participate in relevant research/ audit groups, as required by ABUHB Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service. To support the provision of a specialist area of the service, and contribute to the development of new psychological services and participate in service planning and development, in agreement with the Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service Lead(s). To participate fully in the professional activities of the Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service and the ABUHB Psychology Service. Job responsibilities

The locations of clinical work will include patients' own homes, hospital and outpatient sites, on-line, and in groups. The post holder will be expected to travel to other health board sites and to patients' places of residence. Person Specification

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Professional knowledge acquired through degree, postgraduate doctoral degree supplemented by short specialist courses, clinical supervision. Honours degree in Psychology, giving eligibility for Graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS). Registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) as a qualified Clinical Psychologist. Experience of participating in regular clinical supervision. Possess a working knowledge of strategies, policies and procedures relevant to working with people with long term health and neurological conditions. Aware of race and cultural issues in professional practice. Knowledge of research design and methodology. Good grasp of the main Professional Issues affecting Clinical Psychology in the NHS. Further training in neuropsychological assessment and/or specialist knowledge of neuropsychological rehabilitation. Training in clinical supervision. Experience

Training across a range of client groups but must include Children, Adults, people with Learning Disabilities, and Older Age Adults. Up-to-date on current clinical practice in Clinical Psychology and in Physical Health Services. Experience of delivering psychological interventions in a group setting. Developed special expertise in a relevant clinical area. Post graduate work experience in a relevant clinical or care setting. Experience of working with people with neurological conditions. Post qualification experience of working with people with physical health problems or other long term conditions. Further experience of working within other Clinical Psychology specialties e.g. Child services or Learning Disability Services. Undergone or undergoing relevant post qualification training as part of the CPD process. Research experience and statistical expertise. Academic teaching experience. Aptitude and Abilities

Ability to communicate and relate to people warmly and with empathy. Ability to understand the highly complex and conflicting messages from patients and organize this in a way that allows them to guide the patient through a complex process of change, even when the patient is highly distressed. Detailed knowledge of and ability to effectively use at least one therapeutic orientation related to the needs of people with neurological conditions. Ability to communicate sensitive material in writing. Ability to assess, interpret, formulate and intervene in complex situations with a range of possible options. Ability to plan and organize straightforward activities or programmes, which may be service or client-focused. Ability to provide direction through supervision, teaching and training to assistant psychologists, undergraduate placement students, and other disciplines and agencies. Ability to tolerate the stress and anxiety of being responsible for patients' psychological treatment, particularly when self-harm is threatened. Ability to manage personal stress levels. Good keyboard skills with a high degree of accuracy including a working knowledge of epex, CWS or similar databases, Microsoft Office and Excel. Ability to develop proposals for service developments. Ability to speak Welsh. Has had own work published in peer-reviewed or academic professional journals and/or books. Values
