Clinical Psychologist

Job summary We are looking for a clinical psychologist to join our team of eight qualified clinicians and two assistant psychologists. This post will be a clinical post working in the community directly with older adults with complex mental health problems, with mental health colleagues and wider services. You will contribute to governance within the department, such as audits, and training that the department provides to colleagues. The post is a permanent Band 7 post, for 2 days a week to be agreed with the service lead. Main duties of the job This role will mostly be in the community (seeing outpatients, including home visits across the whole Gateshead patch), neuropsychological assessment, multi-disciplinary work, supervision and training with the CMHTs. The older people's psychology team sits within Gateshead Health Foundation Trust Older People's Mental Health (OPMH) service. The service consists of an OPMH Community Mental Health Team, the Specialist Memory Hub and an Early Onset Dementia team, two older adult inpatient mental health wards (functional and organic) and the Older People's Mental Health Liaison Team. The psychology team works in to each aspect of the service (and also has dedicated input on the stroke ward at the acute hospital). Job responsibilities You will be part of a supportive and experienced team of clinicians, who work together with the Older People's Mental Health service in Gateshead. Your main responsibilities will be clinical, developing your therapeutic and neuropsychological skills in working with older adults, and offering consultation, supervision and training to colleagues. Experience of working psychologically with older people with complexity and co-morbid difficulties will be an advantage, as will training in specific psychotherapeutic approaches. Developmental supervision from qualified clinicians will be provided, and there are good opportunities for further training within the Trust. Person Specification Education and Qualification Essential Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and Neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society and the HCPC. HCPC registered practitioner psychologist Desirable Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology. Knowledge and Experience Essential Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient settings. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity, including severe and enduring mental health problems, psychosis and personality disorder. Desirable Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision. Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health. Skills and competencies Essential Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management. Skills in evidence based psychological interventions. Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinical sensitive information to clients, their family, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Role/Team specific requirements Essential Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multimedia materials for presentations within public, professional and academic settings. Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive behaviour. Desirable Experience of working within a multicultural framework. Additional Requirements Essential Able to meet the mobility requirements of the post.
