Applications are invited for a full-time Clinical Research Fellow post in Neurosurgery, commencing in August 2025 for a fixed term of three years. This post is aimed at neurosurgical registrars with an interest in Gamma Knife radiosurgery and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in clinical practice.

The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) is internationally recognised for its excellence in clinical care and research in neurosciences. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team at NHNN, Amethyst Radiotherapy, and the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, offering unparalleled opportunities for research and professional development.

Research Focus

This post provides an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in skull base surgery, Gamma Knife radiosurgery and AI/machine learning applications in neurosurgery. The role is for full-time research dedicated to academic activities, including data collection and analysis, manuscript preparation, grant writing, and collaborative research projects. Candidates will be encouraged to pursue a PhD during their tenure.

Essential criteria Registered Medical Practitioner Completed general medical training On GMC register Experience

Essential criteria Clinical Experience in Neurosurgery at registrar level An indication of effective research carried out under direction Desirable criteria Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels Experience in data collection, management, analysis and presentation Involvement in the clinical audit process and an understanding of the aims thereof Skills/Understanding

Essential criteria Excellent communication skills/verbal and written Excellent organisational skills Good computing skills (database, statistics) Ability and commitment to teach in a clinical and non-clinical setting Ability to provide clinical supervision Good inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting Ability to organise and prioritise workload, to delegate responsibility as appropriate and to supervise junior staff Committed to research and a commitment to quality in the research process Desirable criteria Ability to administer a teaching programme Excellent presentation and teaching skills Understanding of research methodology Knowledge
