Job overview

The appointee will support clinical trials investigating the treatment of retinal disease under the supervision of Prof Tim Jackson. The appointee will be based at King's College Hospital, Denmark Hill. The post is for one to three years. The appointee will be encouraged to enrol for a higher degree such as a research MD, or PhD. The appointee will be expected to offer administrative and clinical support to existing and new commercial and non-commercial clinical trials. Clinical trials will be based mainly or entirely at Denmark Hill, in one of the UK's leading centres for commercial retinal research, and part of a leading UK Academic Health Sciences Centre. The appointee may be required to travel to other recruiting trial sites. It is required that the appointee works towards publication of high quality clinical or experimental research papers.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties and Responsibilities

This post is designed for an ophthalmologist wishing to undertake at least a year of clinical research, but ideally the candidate would stay for longer, and work towards a research MD or PhD in Retinal Research.

Clinical Responsibilities

The post-holder will report to Prof Tim Jackson as academic and clinical supervisor and work alongside the trial team including study coordinator, study manager, research manager, nurses, orthoptists, medical photographers, doctors, and other staff. The level of appointment will reflect prior clinical experience but is likely to be at the ST2-3 level, without overtime. The indicative timetable shown below may change during the course of the year.

The post holder may be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria MB BS (or equivalent) & Registration with the GMC Hold a UK National Training Number in Ophthalmology and be working, or have experience working, as a specialist trainee in ophthalmology Desirable criteria MRCOphth (or equivalent) other degrees/qualifications Knowledge and Experience and Skills
