Job summary

The post holder will lead practice development and education within the clinical workforce through work-based learning, training, clinical support, and program design, supporting nursing staff, associates, HCSWs, and students at Rotherham Hospice.

They will ensure clinical staff maintain skills and knowledge to deliver exceptional end of life and specialist palliative care. As a role model, they will provide high quality nursing care and promote best practices to enhance patient outcomes.

Working with the Training and Development Manager, they will help create a productive learning environment and collaborate with senior staff to deliver tailored induction and development programs.

Main duties of the job

Deliver training sessions, which are reflective of the hospice's policies and procedures. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate to improve and ensure the provision of high quality clinical skills training, under direction and supervision of the Training and Development Manager.

Ensure the process of clinical skills teaching and assessment is based on procedure learning supervised practice and assessment.

Deliver simulated practical clinical skills sessions, relating theory to practice for students and learners, Nursing Associates, Nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary team, within the organisation, using inter-personal skills and effective communication to overcome any barriers to learning under direction of the Training and Development Manager.

As part of the assessment process, observe staff undertaking clinical skills procedures in the clinical environment.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Deliver training sessions, which are reflective of the hospice's policies and procedures. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate to improve and ensure the provision of high quality clinical skills training, under direction and supervision of the Training and Development Manager. Ensure the process of clinical skills teaching and assessment is based on procedure learning supervised practice and assessment. Deliver simulated practical clinical skills sessions, relating theory to practice for students and learners, Nursing Associates, Nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary team, within the organisation, using inter-personal skills and effective communication to overcome any barriers to learning under direction of the Training and Development Manager. As part of the assessment process, observe staff undertaking clinical skills procedures in the clinical environment. Provide continual support to healthcare professionals undertaking clinical skills. Offer information and support regarding training issues, referring to colleagues when necessary. Deliver the Care Certificate program to unregistered care support workers under direction of the Training and Development Manager. Maintain accurate training records to ensure consistency of monitoring any training undertaken, by way of data collection. Support in the development and delivery of the train the trainers courses, to enable the appropriate qualified staff to undertake clinical skills updates. Maintain a duty and responsibility to comply with all components of the hospice's Data Quality and information risk policies, ensuring compliance with any specific role responsibilities outlined within these. Personal identifiable data must be kept safe, secure, and confidential, and only shared with authorised personnel. Undertake the registered nurses and Health care support workers duties and roles as required within the clinical setting, always acting in accordance with the NMC professional code of conduct and within the range of the post holder's skills and knowledge. Responsibility as supervisor/assessor for pre-registration nursing students and TNAs, whilst they are on placement. Assist in audits following ethical guidelines and principles as agreed by the hospice and to apply the data to the future planning of end of life care services. In all aspects of your work, you have a duty and a responsibility to comply with all components of the hospice's infection control policy, ensuring compliance with specific role responsibilities outlined within this policy. You have joint responsibility with your manager for ensuring that you undertake the mandatory training requirements for your own role.

Qualifications

Essential

Experience of performing clinical skills such as PICC lines, IV additives & Bolus, female, and male catheterisation, drains. Working in a multi-disciplinary team setting. Previous experience as a Registered Nurse within a palliative care setting or ability to demonstrate transferable skills. Supervision and support of staff or students within a clinical setting. Teaching and assessment of staff and/or students in mandatory training competence and compliance.

Desirable

Experience of performing clinical skills such as venepuncture, cannulation. Experience of delivering moving and handling, and Basic life support training. Experience of planning and facilitating teaching sessions. Assessment of staff/or learners.

Skills and Abilities

Essential

Evidence and demonstration of ongoing CPD. Registered Nurse with NMC registration. Ability to use Microsoft Office packages including excel, data collection and inputting. Mentorship (or equivalent) qualification. Teaching (or equivalent) qualification. Teaching, assessment, and facilitation skills. Knowledge of Health and Safety. Knowledge of risk management.
