Job Summary

We are recruiting for a Clinical Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist to join our team.

This role offers the opportunity to work across our musculoskeletal pathway, developing skills within your area of interest. Currently, we have team members working split roles within the MSK Physiotherapy treatment team as well as First Contact Practitioner roles, within chronic pain or in development roles within our MSK triage services.

The variety and ability to drive your career progression promote positive wellbeing, preventing burnout and ensuring aspirations are met with positive support. In comparison to others, our teams are much smaller, serving a specific geographical location. As such, we work closely across our pathway with ample opportunity to educate and support others within the teams.

Our team provides a robust supervision structure and guidance through portfolio development to ensure competencies are met at each level and most readily within our First Contact Practitioner split roles.

An excellent candidate will demonstrate considerable MSK clinical experience as well as an ability to educate and support others, to understand the NHS and the leadership required within in order to work across the system and a wish to contribute to quality improvement and research to provide quality services for the people of the Isle of Wight.

Main Duties of the Job

Provide high levels of clinical expertise as a specialist MSK Physiotherapist working systemwide to support the MSK pathway, providing patients and colleagues educational support and clinical guidance to meet individual needs. Deputise for line manager, taking responsibility for the necessary operational & clinical leadership. High regard for clinical operations and governance, assuring high standards of patient-centred care. Maintaining effective, resilient, and integrated care to provide a seamless MSK patient pathway. Act as a source of expertise for the management of specialist conditions across the Trust and wider healthcare community, working collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary and management teams. Driving service development & quality improvement projects to facilitate best care to strive for excellence. Support the Physiotherapy Professional Lead in providing strategic professional leadership & development opportunities for Physiotherapists across the organisation & act as an experienced and skilled MSK resource for the service and multi-disciplinary team in the specialism of musculoskeletal medicine. Ensure appropriate management of a personal caseload and that of the wider team caseload, with onward referral to Tier 2 triage services, when required. Ensure a high standard of training is delivered. Facilitate & participate in reflective practice, clinical reasoning, audit & research projects within the department to ensure ongoing clinical effectiveness.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy. State Registration. Working towards post-graduate certificate in MSK related specialism. Post Graduate courses relevant to the specialty. Able to demonstrate ability to meet Stage 1 sign off HEE roadmap to practice. Evidence of continuous appropriate CPD including postgraduate courses, reflective practice, in-service training and experiential learning, research contribution, quality improvement contribution. Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy and multidisciplinary team within the NHS. Evidence of clinical and professional leadership. Understands the legal responsibilities of the profession and their duty of care. Evidence of providing clinical education. Enhanced knowledge of physiotherapy in MSK related specialisms such as Occupational Health, Chronic Pain, ED, Rheumatology, Orthopaedics, Community and Primary Care. Understanding of clinical governance and the implications for physiotherapy services, including experience of quality issues and audit. NHS Experience. An understanding of the patient's perspective of NHS healthcare.

Desirable

Working towards MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualifications within the specialisms. Membership of MSK special interest groups/networks e.g. CSP groups, APPN, MACP, SOMM, local peer networks. Evidence of stage 2 sign off HEE roadmap to practice. Team management experience. Evidence of using research methodology. Committee membership e.g. Health and Safety.

Able to empathise, communicate and deal with enquiries from diverse range of service users and colleagues and to use own initiative.

Desirable

Evidence of enhanced Practice skill and MSc HEI study. Practical application, reflective practice and current application evidence with up to date portfolio. Competent IT skills. Previous use of electronic systems. Evidence of initiating and leading research/audit/quality improvement projects. Ability to supervise staff. Critical appraisal.
