Job summary An exciting opportunity has come up within the Occupational Therapy Team in Gloucester! The new post holder will: Provide specialist breadth and depth of skills and knowledge to deliver evidence based occupational therapy assessment and treatment to service users with complex learning disabilities. Work as a key member of a specialist multidisciplinary service contributing expert knowledge and outcomes of assessments to support the creation of specialist intervention plans to manage complex needs including behaviours that challenge others. Provide consultancy and advice, and training to support primary and secondary health care professionals, social care providers and carers to enable them to better meet the health needs of service users. Research, develop and share current best practice to optimise the service users ability to engage with their environment in line with principles of social inclusion and/or recovery. Support the continuous practice development as a member of the leadership group in the occupational therapy workforce. Main duties of the job The LDISS Team provide a specialist countywide service for people with a learning disability whose challenging behaviour is causing significant impact on the individual and their family or the services supporting them. The team works closely with relevant carers, organisations, agencies and with CLDT and inpatient provisions. LDISS is available 7 days a week and is delivered in relevant settings to meet service user needs. The inpatient services provide specialist assessment and intervention on a short term basis for those who require additional support and whose needs cannot be managed within their home environment. The job role spans both LDISS and inpatient services and delivery into each service will be based on priority need. Job responsibilities Specific Key Responsibilities: Deliver highly specialist occupational therapy assessment, recommendations and short term interventions as part of a specialist multidisciplinary service. Provide specialist knowledge, experience, advice and consultation related to occupation focused practice. Contribute to and lead where appropriate the development of multidisciplinary intervention plans for service users with complex needs and behaviours that challenge. Clinical Provide highly specialist Occupational Therapy assessments, recommendations and where appropriate short term intervention for people who face significant Occupational Performance and environmental challenges as detailed in relevant Integrated Care Pathway (ICP). Be responsible for own time management, working autonomously. Utilise the conceptual framework of the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and other evidenced approaches to underpin clinical practice and support highly developed clinical reasoning. Provide highly specialist assessments utilising MOHO tools, Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS) informed assessment, and other Sensory Processing assessments as relevant to client needs commensurate with skills and knowledge. Professional Provide training and support of primary and secondary health care professionals, social care providers and carers to enable them to better meet the occupational needs of service users. Maintain accurate, informative and contemporaneous records of all interventions. Initiate referrals to other services and provide substantive letters and formal reports as required within Trust and Professional standards. Instigate and actively contribute to all service user care planning and review meetings for your caseload. Regularly attend and actively contribute to multi-disciplinary, team and professional meetings and forums. Experience Essential: Substantial post qualification experience as an Occupational Therapist working with people with complex learning disabilities. Clinical experience within at least two of the following settings: secure settings, rehabilitation settings, intensive care settings, acute care wards, community. Qualifications Essential: Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy. Health Profession Council (HPC) Registration.
