We are looking to recruit a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Care of the Elderly and Frailty here at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) to cover a 12 month maternity leave (0.6 WTE). The post will work predominantly between Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) and Weston General Hospital (WGH), with some ad hoc support to the Falls and Frailty out-patient services at South Bristol Community Hospital. The primary focus will be to support the restructure of the BRI services in collaboration with the Medical Respiratory team to create a Front Door team that supports the Emergency Department and the two assessment units, whilst also supporting the wider Care of the Elderly Therapy pathway across sites. Main duties of the job
You will provide advanced clinical leadership and deliver expert Physiotherapy interventions across all aspects of the Care of the Elderly and Frailty Pathway at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust. You will work closely with the Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist and Pathway Leads to drive service improvement, innovation and staff skill and knowledge acquisition for the benefit of patients within the pathway. To enable a strategic clinical oversight, you will deliver your role across the Bristol, Weston and Community hospital sites in the Emergency Department (ED), acute care of the elderly (CoE) wards and outpatient settings. Knowledge and Experience
Varied clinical experience at both band 5 and band 6 level with experience in managing Care of the Elderly (CoE) patients in a variety of clinical settings Significant clinical knowledge and clinical experience, at a senior level within a CoE pathway, in a secondary care setting Up-to-date knowledge base to ensure the delivery of evidence-based practice along with innovative therapy provision within the CoE pathway Knowledge of leadership styles and experience in leading teams Experience in the day-to-day management of staff including addressing issues such as absence and performance Experience of recruiting, interviewing & appointing staff Experience in the induction, monitoring & the supervision of staff Experience as a student placement educator Experience in using audit as part of service development Skilled and Abilities
Highly skilled in managing CoE patients, including those with complex presentations, to ensure optimum management and rehabilitation strategies and plans are put in place Able to undertake advanced physical assessments and treatments Able to prioritise a workload across a defined clinical area and for multiple staff Able to demonstrate effective team-working skills to achieve better patient outcomes Able to demonstrate clinical & professional leadership skills e.g. in the development & implementation of practice standards and service development initiatives Able to identify own strengths & weaknesses in advanced clinical practice and implement strategies to address Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people across professions and organisations Competent in the use of electronic data systems including the production of reports and in the presenting of clinical data Able to recognise & adapt own leadership and supervisory styles to meet the needs of others Qualifications and Training
