The Ophthalmology Department cares for patients of all ages attending a wide range of ophthalmic clinics. We have Doctor/Nurse led clinics on all sites. Within this post, you will work in general Ophthalmology clinics and more specialised ophthalmic clinics, preoperative assessment, and support the organisation and running of theatre lists on a day-to-day basis. You will undergo in-house training specialising in Ophthalmic Nursing care and will be expected to complete the ophthalmic competencies required to work in the department. Main duties of the job

Work in support of and under the direction of a registered nurse, providing nursing care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the Registered Nurse (RN). Provide basic patient care and document that care in the patient records. Perform agreed clinical tasks, clerical duties, and phlebotomy. Participate in working flexible hours to meet the needs of the service, including evenings and weekends. Working for our organisation

Education and Qualifications

Basic literacy and numeracy skills Willingness to undertake NVQ level 3 in a care-related area Experience

Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids Previous experience in a care environment Awareness of the NHS structure and current issues Skills

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Basic IT skills. Good basic hygiene skills (e.g. food handling, hand washing). Some knowledge or awareness of Ophthalmic care.
