The Commercial Accountant forms part of the Strategic Finance team, who act as business partners to support the vet groups strategic growth plan. This is focused on providing financial modelling, analysis, and insight on new practice openings, practice extensions, and practice relocations. The role is equally focused on creating detailed and robust business plans for practice a-share sales to support our practice owners in succession planning and future growth.
Key Responsibilities – What you’ll be doing
Preparation of 10-year business plans for new and existing practices, to include extension plans, new practices and changes in ownership of existing practices
Ensure plans are delivered to a high standard and within agreed timeframes
Management of multiple ongoing assignments, with clear tracking of projects and clear lines of communication to all stakeholders
Managing relationship with external advisors on practice valuations
Gathering and coordinating financial information for external advisors, and assisting with queries
Producing indicative share valuations for practices where relevant
Working with the Treasury team on bank loan options for business plans
Working closely with the Regional Finance Managers and other departments including Operations and Property to ensure accurate revenue and costs in the forecasts
Engagement with wider stakeholders, ensuring alignment & expectation management
Development of new business plan models
Consideration of the end-to-end process, whilst continually seeking to improve and refine the current process
Analysis on revenue and costs to continually update and challenge assumptions used in the financial models and assist with the development of the models
About You – What you’ll bring to the role
Essential
Studying towards / part qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) - study support is available
Advanced Excel skills
Knowledge of other MS Office applications
Ability to clearly communicate financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
Strong organisational skills
Desirable
Financial modelling experience
Experience of working within a fast-paced finance environment
Experience working in a similar practice owner/franchise business model
