Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) is the leading trade association for the UK offshore energy industry, a not-for-profit membership body with more than a fifty-year legacy of supporting initially the UK offshore oil and gas industry, but now representing an increasing number of companies investing across opportunities in offshore energy.
The offshore energy sector is at the heart of the political debate with the UK energy systems set to undergo transformational change in coming decades. OEUK has a critical role to play in support of the members to provide policy leadership and advocacy for a homegrown energy transition that builds on UK strengths while delivering secure affordable energy, economic value, growing the UK supply chain, while tackling climate goals.
OEUK represents over 400 companies and organisations working on offshore energy. The membership comprises multi-national all energy companies, independent oil and gas producers, offshore wind developers, those investing in carbon storage and hydrogen opportunities
Description
Based in either Aberdeen or London, and reporting to the Chief Executive, the Commercial Affairs and External Relations Director will be responsible for working with a variety of stakeholders and member companies across the full spectrum within the offshore energy sector in the UKCS. The Director will lead a team of eleven responsible for external affairs, events, membership services & government relations.
Key accountabilities include:
As part of the OEUK Leadership Team responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation and the delivery of the overall OEUK business plan objectives
Develop and deliver the OEUK Stakeholder strategic agenda, leading the provision of professional advisory services, innovating while ensuring the benefit and cost effectiveness of activities.
Define, implement, and maintain an appropriate stakeholder management strategy, ensuring consistency of messaging so that key stakeholder interactions are proactively managed, monitored, reviewed, and disseminated internally.
Represent OEUK at key senior stakeholder engagements including the media, ministerial meetings, select committees and government select committees, and being able to represent the CEO in any or all of such engagements.
Develop and deliver commercial strategies, identify new business opportunities for OEUK to support membership and generate commercial revenue streams. Knowledge to provide leadership on fiscal policy considerations.
Direct Events activities to ensure they meet stakeholder requirements and have the required technical and professional input, maximising Business Development opportunities and commercial income streams.
Ensure an effective Membership stakeholder account management structure and engagement plan, ensuring Membership contact, needs and Business Development opportunities are supported and maximised.
Manage, motivate, coach, and develop the team to agreed organisational, team and individual objectives, developing a culture of continuous improvement and effective stakeholder management.
Profile
The ideal candidate will be a senior leader with knowledge of the energy sector with a breadth of functional skills and experience in aspects of Commercial affairs, Stakeholder management, Government and Public Affairs and Media Relations.
An effective networker with hands-on operational capabilities, the successful candidate must have the ability to operate at a variety of industry levels, up to and including main board and government ministerial level. Credibility and, above all, outstanding communication, facilitation and influencing skills to drive an agenda will be required. You will have:
Track record in stakeholder engagement, with sound business acumen and a practical, solutions-driven approach who understands and articulates the issues facing the industry, organisation, and its members.
Have a strong understanding of the political and stakeholder environment for the energy sector or have worked in another highly regulated sector with demonstrable experience of picking up technical issues quickly.
Demonstrated commercial acumen, able to develop and implement commercial strategies, identify new business opportunities to generate commercial revenue streams
Experience of working strategically and operationally to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence generally and specifically to stakeholder management and communications.
Demonstrable experience of working in partnership with and presenting to Board and senior management stakeholders within both the Organisation and Member organisations.
Skilled communicator, confident media manager and assured public speaker.
Strong digital and social media knowledge and understanding.
Proven ability to deliver enhanced key messages across a wider audience and stakeholder group.
